Principles of Pneumatics and Pneumatic circuits
Dear all,
Before you take a peek inside the book, let me explain a few points.
Why this book?
I graduated in Mechanical Engineering in the year June 1971(It sounds and feels like centuries ago) from College of Engineering, Guindy, Chennai, India.
After graduation, I worked in many Industrial organizations in India, mostly in their export divisions, travelling all the time and meeting customers all over the World-I was at that time mostly promoting machines manufactured by my employers.
My learning really started in ‘Fluid power’(Oil hydraulics and Pneumatics) when we( My partner, Mr.Mukherji and I) started a company by name ‘Flowlines’ In Chennai.South India. That was the time, I understood the basic Engineering concepts. My partner and teacher was Mr. Mukherji, who had experience both in design and manufacture of fluid power elements and systems.
The learning journey was not over. I learnt more about manufacturing Pneumatic / Hydraulic elements, when we started a second company SEA hydropower India Pvt. Ltd.,
The destiny led me to engage in full time teaching after a few more years.
The practical experience I had gained in marketing/ manufacturing fluid power elements combined with teaching made me learn more and I first wrote a book ‘Introduction to Hydraulics and Pneumatics’ a book published by PHI Learning (India) Pvt Ltd., Followed it up with an E-book and a print book.
How to read the book?
The initial part of the book deals with compressed air and its generation, preparation, and applications. The reader, if he is familiar with these topics can skip this section.
Then the elements that are used in a pneumatic circuit are described. The explanation is more on the functionality of these elements than the design. The students can familiarize themselves with the functions of these elements and then go on to the chapters that deal with the building of Pneumatic circuits. Even in circuits, there are two types- one that deals with Pneumatic circuits, where, Electricity is not available or should not be used. That is, in places, where, inflammable gases are present - such as in mines or some gas/chemical factories.
Electro Pneumatics is used, wherever there are no such risks.
The student can read the chapters that are relevant to his/her need if they already have some knowledge in other areas covered by the book.
Usefulness
I believe that if the student is interested in learning the elements of Pneumatic systems, this book will be of tremendous use.
Thank you and wish you all the best in your quest for information and knowledge.
