Jack Good Sense for Life
()
About this ebook
Jack was my life guide. My soul mate but in dog form. He taught by demonstration. By being. He lived his life in the energy field of love. He couldn't actually say “okay, this is what you do and you do it this way”. He could only be. He could only live his philosophy. I guess he hoped that at some point that I would follow his guidance and I would live in harmony with the world as he did.
I share our pathway with you in the hopes that a little of his loving, creative nurturing spirit will add a sparkle in your life as it did and as it continues to do in mine. Perhaps his philosophy of living his life will become a beacon of light and love in your own life. What you may learn as you turn the pages of the book is that animals can inspire, nurture and guide us. That they enrich our lives not just by being a friend, a companion. That spiritually, they can be our greatest teachers and our most sure-footed pathfinders. Their philosophy can inspire us, and teach us that we are never alone. For within every moment, there is a majesty of Love around and within us.

Live in North Wales, close to Chester the city I am from. I live with a wonderful husband and an equally loveable and equally patient collie dog. I write and "chill". I love that. It gives me the same feeling chocolate does, only much better! Like I'm supposed to write, and if anyone actually reads my work even if it is one person, it is such a thrill.Mind you, I'm a Nanny now, approaching the wrong side of 50! But at least I have more time to write, to sit in the garden, to have a dream or two...Love most stories, especially short stories and stories with an Irish link. Like those that are uplifting and can only hope that some people will enjoy reading mine.

Preface
The book is written for Jack, but for those of you who open up your home and life to the animals who share your pathway. Perhaps in reading it, you will be touched by Jack’s philosophy of life. It is also written for the pets that share your life with you. Perhaps they are trying to teach you, and like me, your lives are so full that perhaps you have not yet taken stock of their life guidance.
Jack gave me so much and I wanted his gift of teaching to be passed to others. I was blessed to share my life with him; his death blessed me again because I grew to realize how important those gifts were. Jack had a good sense for life; for living. He loved every one and saved me not once but twice.
JACK A Good Sense for Life is in essence a dog’s suggested guide to love and life. It contains Jack’s spiritual truth and wisdom. It is his perspective on living an enjoyable and rewarding life. It is also a story, a memoir of our life together.
I trust you will find Jack’s paw print to life on every page.

About the Author
Introduction
Most of us love our pets and our pets love us back. Sometimes we have one pet that changes our lives. They make a connection, sometimes instantly, sometimes not. Yet in all cases, these pets remain in our heart for the rest of our lives. They become our heart animals, they can ingrain into our consciousness and the impact is life changing.
This book is about my heart dog,
Jack. A Border collie cross Labrador who found my pathway and decided to walk it with me.
In this book I share his canine spirituality and his instinctive common sense. My dog taught me how to find and connect with the Love that is within all things. Jack was there at the times of most need and like many dogs his nature was one of true love and devotion.
Dogs are great pathfinders. They can be our life guides too. Although we are not provided with a guide book or compass to our life, we are sometimes blessed with an animal friend who treads our pathway with us, whose very spirit is that of love.
Love Life. His message and his philosophy written for you in words that he never could speak aloud, that he could never write down. Jack was a seeker, a pathfinder.
Here is his tail
to living a better life; his own good sense for living. His inspiration is from a simple source.
Love.
The First Day
Jack simply walked into my life. When we found each other, Jack had no fixed abode
. He was painfully thin yet spotlessly clean. He always carried his tail up high. It was like a black and white flag that he used to announce his arrival. He was so proud.
We lived very close to a small green area which was behind a primary school. It had a foot path and a separate play area for the smaller children. We simply met up on life’s highway. In fact he was sat there, almost as if he was expecting me.
He wore a collar and a lead, but there was no dog tag.
And I took him home. No argument, no dog fights, no jealousness. I took him home because I thought he was in need. But it turned out it was me that was the one in need, not Jack. Jack just knew it before I did and like all heaven sent canines he knew where to find me. Dog’s after all, are great path-finders.
These days as then, there are laws about what to do when you come across a stray dog. Things like checking for a dog tag or whether they are micro chipped. About contacting the police to say a dog is found, and about letting the dog warden know.
There was no one missing the stray cross. So we were allowed to keep him. But this is Jack’s book, and Jack would be saying that he had made the journey to us to be with us. We were his life’s purpose.
Overcoming Past Hurts
Caring about those around him was a skill that came naturally to Jack, as was being able to share his life.
As a stray, Jack would have had to rely on himself to find food, water and shelter. Maybe Jack trusted we would automatically provide for him because we gave him a home and showed kindness to him.
It makes me think how special this was to do, to trust again after being let down. We human beings often find trust does not come so easily once we have been hurt.
How perfect to love without demands or expectations.
Jack seemed able to do this with comparative ease. I am still learning this skill. It doesn’t come easily, to forgive and forget the past. To love and trust my husband, with no expectations, as Jack loved and lived with me. It is an awesome thing to do.
No man has loved me more than my husband does. He copes with all the frailties that I have accumulated at the grand old age of fifty plus.
The unhelpful memories
