Chapter 1
Fugitives
So, before we get to Alyce’s parents’ home, I’ll do my best to recap the events of the past couple of hours. For those that don’t know me, I’m Eli Morningstar and I was abducted by grey-skinned aliens from the planet Vathi in the Zeta Two Reticuli system. Their leader, Empress Kellil, declared I wasn’t abducted, but chosen for a special mission. That whole abduction-chosen thing is debatable. I say abducted. Anyway, my simple, uncomplicated life suddenly became complicated.
After the Vathians abducted me, they injected me with a blue liquid containing Nanomachines that have given me the ability to do some very extraordinary things.
Every time someone claimed they were abducted by aliens, especially grey-skinned aliens, it was the Vathians. According to the Vathian’s principal scientist, Negu, I’m the only human who didn’t reject the injection. Apparently they’ve been abducting and injecting humans for a very long time to find the one.
After the injection, Empress Kellil revealed the reason I was injected with the Nanomachines. My mission was to eliminate twelve Gandoran aliens called the Prime who have been masquerading as humans since the 1850s. Their plan was to terraform Earth into a suitable environment for the remainder of their people living under confinement on the Vathian moon of Phand. Somehow the Prime managed to slip a large contingency to Earth and house them in their Dulce, New Mexico base. These would be the foot soldiers use to wipe out any humans who just might survive the terraforming.
After Empress Kellil revealed all of this to me, I quoted Martin Luther King Jr. by saying, We must live together as brothers or perish together as fools.
I said my own quote, We have failed to live together as brothers and never will so let us perish together as fools
. Long ago I came to the far drawn conclusion that humans are God’s worse creation
. So far they haven’t done anything to prove me wrong. Now somebody wants me to save the human race.
Why would I want to save the world that would rather see me dead? The aliens didn’t understand my reasons. I didn’t expect them to understand me.
Refusing to save humanity from its impending doom, Kellil refused to return me to Earth. They held me aboard their ship for three months. It didn’t bother me one bit. I was comfortable with watching the end of the world from an alien spaceship. With so much time in confinement away from other people, which I thoroughly enjoyed, I quickly discovered how the Nanomachines worked.
The first feature of the Nanomachines to manifest was telepathy. This allowed me to communicate with Empress Kellil and her coterie. The second feature that manifested was the ability to levitate. The third manifestation allowed me to communicate with computers. Of those three, communicating with computers is unsurpassed. Everything on the planet was known to me. If someone posted or tweeted something I would know it.
Fortunately, the Nanomachines filters, delete, and store a lot of the information so I don’t go insane. I also gained the ability to discharge electricity from my fingertips, heal from any injuries and run up to sixty miles per hour for about five miles without tiring.
With my ability to communicate with computers, I talked to Kellil ship’s computer, stole a quad skiff and made my way back to Earth. Looking back I think Kellil and Negu were counting on me doing exactly what I did.
After coming back to Earth, I gave the local media a chance to run my story. Headlines read Missing Man Returns
, Local Man claims He was Abducted by Aliens
, or Real or Hoax
. They didn’t’ take me seriously. My favorite was what PNN anchors Viola Chang and Stanton Kraft said, This is a hoax concocted by this black man. We all know that any smart alien wouldn’t abduct an inferior being
. I laughed because to the aliens all humans are inferior. Soon after the government sent their people. They took me seriously.
First it was the Air Force, followed by the NSA, FBI, and the CIA. They grilled me for several weeks. I didn’t say a word about the Gandoran plot to terraform Earth or being injected with Nanomachines. Then came the mysterious agents in black who followed my every moved. If I went to the theater, two agents would sit several rows behind me.
I was really content with watching the world come to an end at the hands of the Gandorans until one of those sunshades wearing agents shot me in the gut. I took some of them out on my front lawn and decided the rest had to go also. This has nothing to do with saving the Earth. Nobody shoots me and gets away, especially when I have the power to get revenge. Simple as that. Revenge.
Now I’m on the run with Judy Clark and Stephen Weiss of the Extraterrestrial Investigators and my girlfriend Alyce Green who just happens to be the priestess that abducted me. Alyce or Risra, her Tabiil name, belonged to a group of diviners on Vathi who were wiped out by the Gandorans during the Two Cycle War. She is all that remain of her people. Tasked by Empress Kellil to find that special human to unite with the Nanomachines, she found me. To be honest, she made a terrible mistake. As I told Judy and Stephen during my ETI interview, according to Hollywood this science fiction stuff isn’t for a black guy. They didn’t understand.
Okay, now that everyone is caught up, here’s some more of my amazing, but true story.
Chapter 2
Director Lilith Slaughter
A small convoy of black SUVs flooded the usually quiet townhouse neighborhood of Inver Grove. Special agents dressed in black quickly dismounted their vehicles and scattered throughout the neighborhood. Frightened and nervous residents peeked through their blinds at the mysterious agents that skulked about their neighborhood.
Mitch Patton, not frightened by the agents in black, stood in his open garage with his arms folded across his
