Chapter One

Wow, look at this place.

Carla Yates looked at the humongous mansion looming before her. She had never seen anything like it. It was like something out of a fairy tale. She could not keep her jaw from dropping at the mere sight of it. If there was ever a castle or a dream house that she had dreamt of as a little girl, she was looking at it now.

The place looked to be three stories tall and at least fifty yards wide. She could only imagine how you could even find your way around a place that huge. Several families could live inside and never see each other.

As she pulled up in front of the home and turned off her engine, she continued to admire the amazing architecture. It was a palace. She felt as if someone of royalty would have to live there. The home stood at the end of a driveway that was almost half a mile long, paved, with huge trees on both sides casting the perfect trail of dark shadows broken by small slithers of beautiful sunlight. Amazingly crafted shutters framed several rows of windows, almost creating an inviting smiley face that was both welcoming and creepy.  But it was immaculate.
