    Chapter 1: Astrid

Shifting the tranquilizer gun on her back, Astrid squatted down to examine the faint footprints in the dirt. A large male passed here in the night- by the crispness of the print, only a few hours ago. She held her own hand to the massive paw print, its wide outline dwarfing her palm, deep claw marks imprinted in the dirt. She stroked the ground, and snapped a picture of her hand on top of the paw print on her phone- even after three years of doing this job, she still couldn’t get over the excitement of coming so close to the wild heart of the Sierras.

He was cutting off badly, but it sounded like her two teammates found another set of footprints and would follow that lead, meeting up with her back at their campsite. That left her following the fresh set of bear prints alone. Oh well, she thought. She could do this alone. It wasn’t her first time tracking a bear in the wilderness.

An hour later, she was still tracking the bear. Her bra chafed under the weighed of her impressive bosom. An unruly blonde curl plastered itself to her forehead. Following the tracks took concentration, and when she finally looked up to figure out where she was, she realized she had gone deep into the wilderness.

Engrossed in her gadget, she missed the rustling sound in the nearby Manzanita bushes.

Only when the GPS device has loaded the map, did she raise her head. Her breath caught in her throat, like she’s been punched in the gut. The most massive bear she had ever seen was standing not five feet away from her.

He looked like the biggest bear in all of the Sierras. Astrid was a very big girl, soft feminine curves masking a surprisingly developed frame of hard muscle underneath. But this terrifying creature made her feel as tiny and weightless as a plastic Barbie doll. His light-brown coat of luscious, soft fur rippled in the breeze. He fixed her with his eyes, and she wondered if he was sizing her up before making a quick meal of her.

There was barely any time to
