    A Monsoon Cowboy

    Chapter 1

Heavy, sultry, winds swept the dry desert north of Scottsdale on the first day of fall. Marty Tyler was now silently cursing to himself for wearing the much too warm thin sweater and black jeans as he hurried into the nearby box store, craving the familiar icy air conditioning.

On an early morning whim after finishing his few chores around the house, he headed out to the local Electronics mega store and discovered too late, how much the weather had heated up since the previous day.

On most occasions, he loved going shopping and browsing for the latest electronics, but he always hated the pushy throngs of pre-holiday crowds that would now be clogging every store.

In addition to the annoyance of the crowds, he now was forced to wear his damn itchy sweater, as he hadn't put on a tee shirt.

Before too long he decided enough was enough. He was discouraged by the noise and multitude of rude customers and decided only after a few minutes in the swarming store, that he'd made a big mistake going shopping and would just do it online instead.

He scanned his short list of essentials containing; printer ink, perusing the new series of 8K televisions, cell phone cases, and rapidly headed over to their locations, anxious to leave as soon as possible.

While he was picking out his ink cartridges, he looked up from the display and noticed a handsome muscular man of about forty, standing not too far from him openly staring, and smiling in his direction when Marty looked up.

Not thinking too much about it he smiled briefly back at him after nodded in his direction, and then turned back to the ink display.

He thought to himself and smiled again that maybe this trip wasn't a complete bust after all.

He soon tired of looking at the almost identical devices and walked the long distance across the gigantic store to check out the latest televisions.

Spotting an amazingly large screen television that seemed more like a window than an electronic device, he made a personal note to read the latest trade reviews when he returned back home.

When he turned away from the hundreds of televisions all showing the same images, he noticed the same muscular salt and pepper haired man staring again, and instead of the probably desired effect, it almost seemed creepy.

This time he was not being even a little bit subtle about openly smiling at him with his appraising stare.

He now also noticed the cowboy boots and his large belt buckle holding up some very sexy tight jeans.

Unable to help himself Marty could not control his own shy smile, lighting up his handsome, masculine face. He then unconsciously pushed back his shaggy black hair as he watched the amused look grow on the other man's face, and as he suggestively and slowly licked his lips.

Marty had to turn to glance back once more at the strikingly sexy man and then found that he felt suddenly wary of him and turned away. He headed toward the final store destination on his list, self-charging cell phone cases.

When he arrived at his last stop, he took a quick furtive look around to see if his new shadow had followed him, but felt a bit let down this time, when he didn't see him standing nearby.

With a sigh of disappointment, he chalked it up as a normal coincidence. He soon was engaged in looking at the hundreds of similar looking cases on display, losing track of time as there were so many options.

Still, when from time to time he glanced up to find his elusive cowboy was nowhere in sight.

When he finally found the right case, he walked toward the checkout line but was shocked by the huge number of people waiting there to pay, and decided it was rediculous to stand there like that.

Shaking his head, he figured he wasn't in that much of a hurry to buy something, so he put his items back, and headed out the main door.

On his way back to his car, he stopped at a nearby café, ordered an iced green tea, and then sat down to check his email before driving back home empty handed in more ways than one.

About the time his cup needed a refill, without warning he felt someone tap him on the shoulder, leaving his hand firmly in place.

Marty jumped and whirled around in his seat to see who was touching him, instantly on guard.

Hi there, I thought you'd given me the slip and I'd never find you again, he said, once more smiling broadly at him, his deep green eyes sparkling with glee.

For a moment, Marty just stared at him without answering as he was so stunned by his unusual and forward actions.

Uh hi yourself, what did you need to find me for, Marty stammered, not knowing quite what to say to him.

He realized how lame he probably sounded considering their smile exchanges, but this was an out of the ordinary situation, at least for him.

Still pondering his next words to him, he was at a loss as to how to react as the long seconds of silence began mounting up.

The man stared at him for a moment with a fleeting look of possible confusion marring his smile.

Well, hopefully I'm not wrong but you looked like a nice guy and really stood out in the crowd with that shaggy black hair of yours. Now before I go on and make a total fool of myself, I need to get something out of the way first, he continued, speaking very fast and shifting from one booted foot to another.

I'd imagine the sweater and jeans played a role in standing out, considering the hot weather; so tell me, what was it that you wanted to say to me, he laughed at himself, feeling an unanticipated attraction to this handsome stranger.

That too, and of course your handsome face and great smile. So my question is are you single; I want to know if I am wrong in talking to you this way? he asked, suddenly sounding very formal and somewhat awkward, and perhaps shy.

Yes and no to your questions, but I've never been approached this like this before today, Marty answered him, watching his smile become brighter.

Being direct saves a lot of time you know and helps to get on with things that really matter, he answered, staring directly at Marty, this time with a very serious look replacing his former bright casual smile.

You do have a point there and speaking of noticing people, to be honest I liked your smile as well, and those intense green eyes are unique, was all Marty could think of to say, knowing he was coming across as being awkward himself.

Well then since we have the mutual fan club out of the way, why don't you invite me to sit down with you here and I'll get you some more Green tea? You look like you might need a bit more of the icy brew. However if you are a bit chilled and if so, did you want it hot this time? he smiled glancing down at the prominent hard bunched nibs pressing against Marty's thin sweater.

Marty glanced down and felt his cheeks heat up and grow red when he saw where the cowboy was looking.

Smiling at him and trying not to snicker at Marty's embarrassment, the man extended his hand.

I'm Steve Benet by the way, and you are, he asked, holding onto his hand with no intention of letting go.

Marty Tyler, glad to meet you I think, he returned, wincing at Steve's firm grip on his hand.

Nice to meet you too, I'm sorry if I seem uncomfortable but as I said a few minutes ago, I've never approached anyone like this before, for this reason that is, Steve admitted, before continuing.

"The single part is what truly surprised me I have to admit, what gives if
