About this ebook

When Maia moved to Sitka, Alaska, she planned on a quiet life. Men had gotten her in trouble before, and she had no plans to get involved with one again. She didn’t plan on Officer James Gerard of the Sitka Police Department to be so interesting, or handsome. She didn’t plan on him returning her interest. And she definitely didn’t plan on him being the only person who could save her when her secrets caught up to her.

The sexy newcomer to town caught James’s eye immediately, but he wasn’t sure she could handle his world. As his clan reminded him over and over, it takes more than a pretty face or winning personality to marry into the clan. When her past put her in danger, he risks his own secrets to save to try to her.

Deep Blue is the first story in the Accord Series. It is an 11,000 novelette, with more stories coming in the future!

Dawn started writing in college, but she’s been telling herself stories as long as she can remember. At first, they were just ways to pass the time while doing chores on the farm, but they rapidly became an obsession. Now she shares that obsession with others, writing the stories she desperately wants to read but can’t find. She is professionally and independently published, and plans to have a long, prolific career as a hybrid author. She currently lives in Kansas City with lots of family and cats. Her interests, when she’s not jacked into the Internet, include horses, crocheting, action and horror movies, reading urban fantasy, science fiction, and fantasy, and discussing feminism, racism and other -isms in the media.

Are you going to stay until I offer you some coffee? Maia’s voice wasn’t annoyed; it was hard to be upset when Officer James Gerard was the one imposing on her solitude. The woman coiled her fingers around her brunette hair before realizing that she was fidgeting again.

The officer grinned at her flirty question. Maia felt her skin warm as he leaned against the cabin of the Sitka Police Department cutter, the casual motion showing off the musculature of his arm. She might have thought that intentional but James seemed to be unaware of his effect on women. Coffee would be nice, if you’re offering. We’d appreciate it. It’s been a bit cold today.

Yeah. Maia shivered in agreement, her fingers toying with the zipper on her down jacket. After Florida, falls in Alaska are a shock. And winter’s gonna be worse, everyone tells me. C’mon in, I’ll put on a pot.

Thank you, ma’am. James turned and waved to the other officer, Brad Thyer. Maia was familiar with both men from their previous stops at her island; she waved to Brad as the two hopped the side of the twenty-five foot boat. Maia turned and led the way up the dock to her cabin. As she approached, she studied the snug structure again, barely able to believe it was hers—all hers. Every log, every shingle, each crack and corner was hers, free and clear.

After ten minutes of brewing and idle chatter, the two men had hot drinks in their hands, sighing with relief. Maia sipped her own cup and covertly watched them. Brad’s face was permanently marked by sun and wind. He was attractive, if you liked the rough and outdoorsy look. Maia preferred James. He was tall and deceptively lean; she’d seen his legs over the summer and he had a swimmer’s physique. His skin always had a healthy tan and vital glow to it. His short, regulation-length hair shone blue-black in the sun and his brown eyes were deep enough to drown in. Maia thought they’d make a good match; she was tall and looked tanned year-round thanks to a Cuban mother. She wondered if James had the same help from his heritage or if life in the sun had left him naturally nut-brown.

Sure is getting cold out there. Brad’s voice interrupted her musings, which was just as well. Maia held little hope of having a real relationship anymore. She was never sure if
