About this ebook
Laura Patrice is the only granddaughter to the very wealthy, powerful and influential Jacobs family but she has no idea because her mother Karen Jacobs passed away two months after she was born due to suspicious circumstances. Sent to have her baby to Mississippi, sixteen year old Karen Jacobs’ parents wanted nothing to do with her unwanted and timely pregnancy or the future of their grandchild, so James and Cheri Jacobs sent the unwed, teen mother to live with an old family friend until the child was born, but only Karen was welcome back home, Karen Jacobs. Once back home with her mother Cheri and stepfather James Jacobs in Houston, Karen ends up dead. With no knowledge of the baby, its sex or the old friend’s whereabouts, the Jacobs moves the family to Atlanta, Ga in the hopes that the child is not brought to them, so they cut off all contact with the old friend.
Now the daughter of Karen Jacobs is turning thirty. Laura Patrice is ready to step out and see the world now that her mother Roberta Patrice has been placed in a nursing home and when Laura Patrice gets a invite from an old high school friend to come down to Atlanta the timing could not have been more perfect, hopefully this visit can give Laura the break and independence she’s been seeking. With very little office experience she gets a job at the Jacobs office and discovers a world and lifestyle she never knew existed, but first she has to get past the members of the Jacobs family and that won’t be easy.

Prologue
What’s done in the dark shall come to the light.
This is what comes to mind when there are dark secrets and lies hovering around an unexplained family event or a person’s life. I am sure that’s pretty much the case for anything, especially when you open up a can of worms. There is nothing like darkness in a family especially when it’s surrounded by, death, a missing person, lies, betrayal and sex. The only remedy for such darkness is the sweet smell of revenge. No matter how old the story is or how many times it’s told, one always seeks the ultimate route of getting even once they know the truth and as we all know, the one who knows the most holds the keys to everything.
For instance, with the sudden and shocking death of Karen Jacobs, who was only sixteen at the time after her visit to Mississippi to have her baby girl, Laura one can only imagine what secrets she held. Now no one in the family knows anything about Karen or what took place, or her sudden promiscuous behavior that sent her mother Cheri and stepfather, James Jacobs through the roof. They cared more about what others thought of them after making it big in the oil industry. One thing that is clear is that Karen’s little brother Larry Jacobs, now forty-one still loves her to this day. Leslie her little sister, three at the time doesn’t remember much but she sure is acting as the only girl of the Jacobs family.
What the Jacobs family doesn’t understand is karma and how ruthless it can be when it’s looking to get even. Something down right dirty was done to two members of the Jacobs family and although one is dead and gone, karma will have the final say and I promise you it won’t be pretty when the truth starts spilling out. Don’t let the Jacobs family lifestyle fool you, they are cruel people, but they have yet to meet Laura Patrice.
The Move
I’ve must have stared at that old picture in mother’s album book for some time now and still don’t know who that beautiful young girl is that looks like me. Mother seems to have forgotten whenever I ask her, but tonight I hope she can remember since it may be my last visit to her before my big trip to Atlanta. To make sure I don’t forget, I will place the picture in my purse, Laura then places the outdated picture of a young girl in the right side pocket of her purse. Now pushed for time and needing to pack up as much stuff as she can for her drive to Atlanta, Ga. Laura snatched her keys off the table and jetted out of the front door, leaving the screen door behind her slightly opened. Not paying attention, she forgets her phone is left on the back seat of her car and while carrying in one of the three tall boxes, her phone rings, she comes to a complete stop in her tracks, dropping the box. Laura reaches into her back pocket for her phone but it was not there, she begin patting her front pockets and notices how conveniently she’s left it in the backseat of her car. Without a moment to spare she races back to the car, and for good reason, it was her friend Tracy Callaghan on the other end.
So are we ready my dear?
Tracy laughs. Knowing how good Atlanta has been to her and her career she had been begging her good friend Laura to visit for months. I guess she must have convinced her enough to want to leave her home town taken her mother was now in a nursing home and there was not much for her to do. It can get pretty lonely in a big house all alone if you don’t have anyone to share that space with and I guess poor dear old Laura had finally came to her senses.
I can’t wait to see you, I mean it’s been awhile and I’ve should have known you were not coming back this way.
Laura remarked. She knew Tracy’s plans to move back to Mississippi was just talk and she appreciated her good friend for keeping in touch with her now more than ever. Laura and Tracy have always been the best of friends and when she moved away their friendship and bond remained close. Working as a Chemist in Atlanta, Tracy has made a pretty good living for herself not to mention it took her moving away to find the love of her life. Knowing if Tracy can get the life she wanted, Laura can as
