Longing for the South

This coloring book is inspired by the rich, and amazing folk art of the Balkan nations, imprinted on their embroideries, knits, jewelry, ornaments, accessories... Enjoy your journey to the South of Europe, through a peninsula considered as a crossroad of three continents, as your mind relaxes and catches the rhythm of its vivid geometric and floral forms framed in elegant ethnic bordures.
The shapes are usually rhythmically repetitive, so are the colors, with the red color being dominant in many areas. Other colors specific for this region are yellow, green, and dark blue.

I am 30 years old graphic & 3d designer based in Skopje, Macedonia. My fascination and interest in visual arts begins in my youngest years, when I was rewarded in my first regional art competitions. Fascinated by the possibilities of the modern technologies, I started using designing software as a form of artistic self- expression during my college days... and I never stopped since then. While holding a job in different area I started working of freelance projects in corporate branding, and after that I expanded my interests and skills toward illustration and visualization using 3d software. Although I don't have official schooling in the design department, I constantly follow courses, and learn about using composition, color and art rules in a manner to produce the desired effect of the final product, which have resulted with satisfied clients, and many successfully finished projects through the years. ‘Longing for the South’ is my first ‘line art’ project, and I must admit that I composed these pages for the same reason the audience loves to color them – it’s amazingly relaxing, and it generates an environment where the creativity takes over, and everything else fades away. It was also wonderful to ‘dig in’ for inspiration in the cultural inheritance of my beautiful Macedonia and the lovely countries that surround it. I hope you enjoyed this coloring experience as much as I enjoyed creating it.
