Stepping-stones to watercolour

Watercolour can be a challenging medium at the best of times. It can be difficult to correct mistakes and often seems to have a mind of its own! One of the most common problems I experienced while learning and now see on a regular basis as a tutor, is work lacking tonal strength. The fluid transparency of watercolour is second to none for capturing light and atmospheric effects, but can prove a difficult learning curve when it comes to pitching accurate tones.
