    Dedication

I would like to dedicate this book to my best friend, Leandra Ashcraft. You not only provided me with the opportunity to write this book but also with your support, encouragement and contagious belief in the impossible. Thank you, my dearest friend.

In addition, thank you, all my friends and family who provided me with the love and strength that kept me on my mission to spread the gospel of the Goddess. Serina, Chelle, Cody and Matt, I love you.

Finally, I must thank all my companions in the spirit world. Your continuing guidance has brought me to this place.

    Introduction

So you want to be a Witch? Well, this is a book about Witchcraft, so you may very well be holding one of the tools that will help you fulfill that wish.

I had considered making this book only a practical guide, a spellbook as it were. Although it is quite possible to perform magick without spirituality, you should always strive for balance in all areas of your life. A very close Craft friend of mine, Malechi, once told me, Magick without religion is like giving a child a loaded gun. Visions of the Sorcerer's Apprentice from Fantasia usually come to my mind when I think of that statement. In truth, you can't help but experience the spiritual side of Witchcraft when performing magick since the act itself is an expression of the Divine. Aside from this, don't be misled...this book still offers you the nuts and bolts of Witchcraft that I'm sure you're eager to learn. The spiritual guidance is simply a given.

I hope this book will clear up any misconceptions you may have, bring you closer to your own brand of spirituality, and most of all-bring you all those desires you've longed for.

In closing, please be forewarned...this isn't a path to be tread lightly. It's a way of life, and you will find its effect in all aspects of yours.

May the Ancient Ones bless you on your journey and impart even a small portion of their wisdom.

    The Charge

This is a Charge of the Goddess from my personal Book of Shadows. There are, in actuality, quite a few out there. It just depends upon which book you're reading or who's teaching you. This particular one is from a Wiccan songstress named, Lady Isadora, and is taken in part from a song called Drawing Down the Moon from her Priestess of the Pentacle album.

I chose this one to share with you, because it gives very useful advice on the practice of the Craft. I also thought it a wonderful way to begin our journey.

I am the White Rose at dawn

I am the Moon and the Sea

I am all that was, is and every shall be

Nor has any mortal ever yet seen that which lies beyond my veil

Do not look for too long in books, though these may tell of me inspiringly

Nor in tools and trappings, though these may be beautiful and worthy symbols

Know that the Art Magickal is Art

Alive and flowing and changing...unique unto each

Make of me a system or a doctrine

And you will surely find that I am indeed the Mistress of Surprises

Gather in secret if you must

But do not tarry over long behind closed doors

For it is in the richness of the earth and the boundlessness of the sky

That my true temple is to be found

And the Moon and Sun and Stars will keep your secrets

Look for me within these things

But above all within your own souls

For it is there I am...and beyond

    Prelude

WITCHCRAFT, W-I-T-C-H-C-R-A-F-T. Come on, say it with me. You liked the sound of it, didn't you? It just sort of rolls off the tongue. And it even sounds mysterious. What do you think of when you hear the word? Secrets, magick, power, otherworldly? What pictures does the word conjure in your mind? An old hag stirring a cauldron, a beautiful young woman in black, naked people dancing under a full moon? Well, I have news for you...it's all true. Well, except for the broomstick rides across the moon. So far!

We look like everyone else, we even act, at times, like everyone else. The difference is that we have a peace about us, because our Witchcraft has helped us see our place in the grand scheme of things. Not to mention, provided us with the creature comforts to make our lives a little more enjoyable.

If you desire to know yourself better, to make changes in your life or yourself, or simply to have some of those material possessions or maybe a life-partner; then you owe it to yourself to investigate the power of the Craft. It can and will transform you and your life.

The Golden Rule to remember, and you'll hear it quite often throughout these lessons, is the Witches' Rede/Law:

An it harm none, do what thou will.

It's simple, really. There is plenty of health, wealth, love and happiness to go around. There's no need to deprive anyone else in order to have them.

    Modern Witchcraft/Wicca

Witchcraft, as it exists today, is usually known as Wicca. Although, I should note here that I believe there is a difference between the two. Wicca is the religion and Witchcraft is the craft or the art. Not all Witches are Wiccan, but all Wiccans practice Witchcraft. In all my travels and talks with other Witches, I have never heard anyone say they practice Wicca. You ARE Wiccan; you don't practice Wicca, but you do practice the Craft.

The word, wicca, is Old English and means roughly, craft of the wise. It is also widely accepted in the Craft as the world's oldest living religion, or simply, the Old Religion. Though there remains a bit of controversy over the Craft's age; indeed, its spiritual roots are deeply seated in antiquity.

Wicca is a nature-based religion and accepts the principles of
