Sanzki sat on the schoolyard steps and watched the other students throw snowballs at each other. She was eleven years old and friendless — all because she broke the nose of the most popular boy at school when he tried to kiss her last year. She had no regrets.

Hello, somebody said from behind her.

Sanzki flinched and twisted around to see who it was. A girl she had never seen before stood behind her, with bright pink hair and dark brown eyes. Her skin was brown like Sanzki’s. The
