As he’d expected, the lady of the house was curled up in her wingback chair, her burgundy hair styled in an elegant chignon, her crystal-blue eyes downturned as they scanned the pages of a hardback novel. A tumbler of red wine and a glass bowl of macadamia nuts sat on the side table next to her.

“Thank you, Mistress,” said Lucas meekly. Damn. She was in a good mood, and he was about to ruin it.

Liza turned her gaze back to her book, stroking Lucas’s hair absently as she read. She then trailed her finger down to Lucas’s lips. Lucas took her lovely finger in his mouth and sucked it ardently, his heart beginning to beat faster. Sometimes he caught himself wondering where the hell he could find a woman like Mrs. DuCharme who didn’t already have a Richard.

“Mmmm,” purred Liza, shifting in her chair as she finally set aside her book. She gazed down at Lucas. He drank in the beauty of her catlike features: her enormous pale eyes, her high cheekbones, her petite nose and mouth. So different from Callie with her cute little dimples and freckles. Both women were so stunning, each in her own unique way.

“Come here, love,” said Liza, patting the unoccupied space beside her on the seat cushion. Lucas’s eyes brightened. It was rare that she let him come up and cuddle with her.
