Learn How to Crochet Granny Squares. Learn How to Crochet and Create Your First Granny Square Throw - Betty Kraus

    Crochet Basics

Crochet is a wonderful hobby and fiber art. Make no mistake, crochet is an art form. You decide on the colors and fibers to use, choose or design a pattern, and then take a hook and yarn and use them to create projects. All you really need to begin to crochet is a hook and yarn. In this chapter we’ll go over the basic or crochet hooks, as well as learn about different types of yarn, and how to read a yarn label.

    Crochet Hooks

I have had the same set of good quality, medium priced crochet hooks for many years. I recommend purchasing a set which contains sizes E-K. These sizes are the most common hooks used. Hooks come in two main types; inline and curved. Inline hooks have a sharper edge and curved hooks are smoother. I prefer curved, but lots of my friends swear by their inline hooks. Try them both out and see which type you prefer.

    Crochet Hook Sizes

Crochet hooks come in several different sizes from tiny needle-like hooks used for thread crochet to giant hooks used with bulky yarn and different fibers. Some patterns refer to the letter and number while other patterns may call for the hook
