Perseverance - Veronica J. Valentini
Three Things
Three things hold you
Free yet fettered
Soaring but bound
Like air tied with twine
Beautiful but bent
You refuse to be restrained
There’s more to living
To life, to being
Three things hold you
Here, there and far away
One, to touch
Two, to see
Three, to contemplate
Rustles, ripples and radiance
You see through the spaces
You smile at the waves
Lapping away at your expectations
Ripples of random realities
It should have been another day
A smile like that of the sun
Fun yellow but searing hot
The heat of battles
Battles within, fights indeed
What there cannot give
Faraway may bring
Shining glorious hopes
Upon cool waters
Waters and light
That soothe your toes
Toes tickled by the same here
For the three still hold you
Here, there and far away
Take Me Away
A thousand dazzling lights
A million more torchbearers
Skyline and sea line
There is no dividing line
A unison of colors
A triumph of honors
From height to depth
Ridges and bridges
Burnt and built
There is no argument
One craves the north
The other the south
Two ends of a broken pole
We laughed at caves
And welcomed the fields
Fields that turned to flowers
Flowers that blossomed to trees
Trees that turned to mountains
And mountains that grew to the stratosphere
In all we were safe
Safe to dream
Safe to swim
To drown or to float
We could be our genesis
And still our ending
Fear is celebrated in bravery
Of roots and pills and
