The Box
––––––––
The scream of Allison Sinclair echoed down the hall from her bathroom. It was a scream of rage, a scream of frustration, and (most importantly) a scream that indicated someone was about to wish they had used better bathroom etiquette.
The bathroom door flew open, and Allison stalked into the living room like a freshly-watered phoenix, her long red hair dripping on the carpet. She marched in between her roommate and the television, arms folded in fury over her bathrobe.
How many times have I told you...turn off the freakin' shower head before you turn off the water. The last thing I want is a face full of cold water when I turn the faucet on.
Steven looked up at her still-dripping face and mumbled an apology, then tried to crane his neck to continue watching television around her.
Do that again and I'll do the worst thing you could ever imagine.
What?
he asked.
Kick your ass out so hard you'll land in Arkansas.
Hey, I'm looking for my own place...you know that!
Allison turned and looked at the TV.
Yeah, I can tell; all the best apartments are listed on the psychic channel.
Just gotta trust the stars. They never cause me a problem as long as I trust'em.
I don't know if you can trust them, but you're going to be seeing them the next time I get sprayed in the face.
'K. Got it. Sorry.
Allison managed to get back to the bathroom door before a knock came at the front door.
Can you get that, Alli? This is getting to the good part.
She counted to ten. In binary.
Twice.
