Being a border mage is a lonely life, thinks Tor.

His job is maintaining the protection spell on the long wall that separates the warring lands of Biltan and Horria. He lives in a tiny, sparse keep that's too hot in summer and too cold in winter, with only four guards for company. They're not particularly smart, and more interested in polishing their swords than talking with Tor.
