Wizard Rules Book III - Raven Coyne

    Prologue

As the day dies and turns to night we find ourselves at the base of the foothills ready to ascend the Forlorn Mountains east slope.  The mountains and hills are lost in the fog, along with the tops of the trees.  These fogs can last days and sometimes weeks.  The day has been depressing.  Little real work could be done, just the process of putting one foot in front of another and not falling into one of the numerous bogs that lie in wait for the unwary takes up most of our attention.  Garret now scouts no more than a few hundred yards from the rest of us, the land is so treacherous.  We set up a dry camp for the night and decide that a fire is needed by all for warmth no matter the danger in being discovered.  There is a tension in the air about us.  Everyone speaks little and with the greatest politeness.  As we sit watching the flames dance Callick Locke clears his throat and begins to speak.

Garret stands as well and places a hand on Locke’s chest, an act few would have the guts to do, If you’re departing so be it, but leave in the morning.  You already know how treacherous these lands are.

Locke nods slightly and sits back down.

Trina however, is not through breaking the tradition that says if a party member wants out they leave no questions asked.  I do not like cowardice, nor disloyalty.

Even I catch my breath at the bold statement.  I don’t think anyone would think Locke a coward.  And loyalty only carries you so far in the Ruin Fields.  You also need a goal and leadership.  So far this trip has lacked both.  I have to commend Locke he stays calm and shrugs his shoulders.

"If that is how you see it, so be it.  I however see
