About this ebook

Some people believe they can take on a member of the legendary British SAS and get away with it.

Retired SAS Squadron Sergeant Major Keith Boutwell’s life is falling apart around him. He lost his security job, his wife left him, and he’s spending his nights in a run-down pub.  Nothing is the same since he left the SAS until one night, two unknown men decide to scope him out at his favorite pub and set off his trouble radar. When the men follow Keith from the pub and he confronts them, he realizes his life is in danger.

Keith enlists the help of the only people he can trust with his life; three of his mates from the SAS who are still active. Together, this elite squadron must determine the threat against Keith and eliminate it.  Having run many ops together, they are like a well-oiled machine and they protect each other with their own extreme measures.  Someone is about to discover the error of his ways and find out exactly what happens when you threaten the life of an SAS member, retired or not.

As Keith and his men work together to deal with the threat against him, they discover an even bigger problem and decide to deal with it head on as only the can do.

    Chapter One

I’ll have another pint please love, Keith said to the cheerful, pretty barmaid who was leaning on the other side of the bar, chatting to him, and have one yourself, He added.

Don’t mind if I do, but I’ll have to drink it later. Not allowed to drink on duty here.

Keith knew that the money would go into her pocket and not into the pub’s till. Perk of the job he reckoned. If the girl drank every drink she was offered she would be royally drunk every night.

He turned his back to the bar as she went to get him another pint and looked round at his fellow drinkers.

A motley collection, just about what you would expect in a run-down town pub on a wet Thursday evening.

Some drinking to forget their shitty lives and others just out to relax and have a chat to someone other than the people they worked with every day.

Then there were those two in the corner. Sitting with their backs to the wall, just sipping on their drinks and the small one was drinking orange juice. Bloody Poof. They seemed to be glancing over at him every so often and they were giving his trouble radar a hit.

Keith turned back to the bar as the barmaid returned with his fresh pint and said, Don’t make it obvious Debbie, but do you know those two jokers over there in the corner, ones drinking orange juice?

Debbie glanced round the bar, looking at the patrons and let her gaze linger on the two men for a moment.

Never seen them in here before Keith, would have remembered them if they had been in.

Keith agreed that she would remember these two. One of them was quite small and quick moving. The other looked like a bruiser. Well over six feet tall and built like a brick shithouse, all muscles and no brains. The type that hits first and asks questions later. Probably thought that his size would stop most men from challenging him at all.

Keith wondered what they wanted with him. The feeling that they were there for him was strong, and he had learned the hard way not to ignore his danger radar.

Ah well, he thought. He would worry about them if they made any sort of move on him.

He carried on chatting to Debbie and drank his pint and another one before he said to her that he had better be thinking of getting home.

Debbie made it plain to him that he didn't have to go home, at least not to his home, as she would be more than happy to take him home with her.

Keith made his apologies and said, Maybe next time, eh? as he didn't want Debbie to get involved in whatever these two jokers wanted with him. Better if he dealt with them alone.

See you tomorrow probably Deb, night love. He told her as he turned to head for the door. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the small man nudge the big feller and drink up.

He went out into the miserable night, rain pissing down and quite windy, and started to walk slowly home. He didn't want to lose the two men that seemed to want to follow him.

Bloody rain again. Keith pulled his raincoat tighter up around his neck and eased his hat down lower. He would have usually called a taxi, but he was curious what these two wanted with him.

As he walked he thought back on the past few weeks, and
