About this ebook

Kevin Kendrick must come to terms with his grandfather not being who he's always been thought to be and that he killed Kevin's real grandfather decades ago. As times wears on, Kevin feels his mind slipping away, with each tick of the clock stealing something from him. Can he learn to forgive and put everything in the past, where it's always been, or can he, a mild-mannered man, bring justice full circle?

    Chapter 1

Kevin Kendrick flipped through his grandfather’s old, well-worn photo album that had been tucked carefully away in a trunk in the basement, pausing occasionally to muse over the funny-looking clothes and expressions visible in each one. Martin Kendrick was a very sick man. Everyone knew that he probably would not survive the winter. His stage four cancer had gotten the better of him, sapping all of his strength, energy, and sometimes, even his mind. Kevin was all that he had left in the world. Seldom did he realize this, his mind being so quickly and so often stolen away from him.

Kevin always considered himself close to his grandfather, thinking that he told him everything. The strange thing was that there was one man in so many pictures, one man that had never been mentioned. The other man and Martin were obviously friends, maybe even relatives. There were pictures of the two embracing, hunting together, fishing, and a great number of other things, whether or not they still loved each other as only brothers or two men as close as such can or hated one another, it was too overwhelmingly perplexing that this mystery man had no name or spoken of tie to Martin.

Martin was good at talking about his wife, about their more than forty years together before her passing, about his work, his parents, and just about everything else, but he never spoke of the man in the pictures. Kevin thought that asking questions might stir up bad memories and cause his grandfather discomfort in these, his final days. The only other person that might know anything was Kevin’s uncle, David, though David wrote his father out of his life more than a decade prior. This left only Martin to supply an answer.

Nothing about the whole thing felt right. All evidence of the other man was stored away in a place that was unlikely to ever be disturbed and was found only due to Kevin’s boredom and thorough inspection of the house. Every picture
