About this ebook

While visiting relatives in Texas, his cousin Jay, tells Zachary a story. After telling him the story, about “The Scrolls of Andahar”, Jay asks Zachary to help him find the scrolls.
“Those 60 million year old scrolls should be worth millions,” Jay said. “For a sleuth like you, this should be a cinch; so what do you say?”
At first, Zachary was hesitant in agreeing. When Jay showed Zachary proof, at least what Jay believes is proof; Zachary agrees to help. As they shake hands Zachary thinks, I still don’t believe his story but the possibility of getting a share of millions of dollars is worth looking into. Besides this might be just the thing I need to end my boredom.

Kendar, a burly looking Second Lieutenant of CAP (Camerün Air Patrol), shouts, I’M OUT OF AMMUNITION, ANYBODY GOT SOME SPARE CLIPS.

Captain Gregor, crawls up to Lieutenant Kendar and hands him two clips while saying, I don’t know how much longer we can hold them back. He fires his weapon in time to fend off two advancing invaders, of the Bastian Marines. In case they charge the cave and overrun our position, you need to bury those Sacred Scrolls of Andahar. When Kendar hesitates, The Captain shouts, LIEUTENANT, DO IT NOW! Do it before those, Feline faced, Basetians attack again.

Slamming a fresh clip into his weapon, Kendar takes careful aim and with a well-placed burst, he sends two more Basetian Soldiers to their hereafter.

Seeing no more threats, he turns to Captain Gregor and says, Sir, instead of burying them maybe I should hide them?

As he fires, his weapon, at three approaching Bastians, a frustrated Captain Gregor shouts to Lieutenant Kendar, I DON’T CARE WHERE YOU BURY OR HIDE THEM, JUST DO IT.

While looking around, for a place to hide the Scrolls, Kendar comes up with a solution to his dilemma and shouts, I’VE GOT IT. While shoving the Scrolls, a laser drill, one Thermite Grenade and a Kevlar Vest, into an empty duffel bag, he explains to Captain Gregor what he plans to do. If I can reach those round boulders, to our right, without getting my head blown off, I’ll use the laser to drill a hole in one of them. After wrapping the Vest around the Scrolls, I’ll place them in the hole. Then, I’ll use the Thermite, from the Grenade, to seal the hole.

Avoiding a burst from a Basetian weapon, the Captain grabs Kendar by his lapels and shouts, SO HELP ME, IF YOU DON’T QUIT PROCRASTINATING, YOU WON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE BASETIANS SHOOTING YOU, I’LL SHOOT YOU MYSELF. When he calms down, he tells Kendar, Get ready, when I fire my weapon at the Basetians, that’ll be your signal to run towards the boulders.

Kendar, straps the duffel bag to his back. With his weapon, in his hand, he waits for Captain Gregor to open fire. When the Captain fires his weapon, Kendar runs towards the boulders. Before emptying his clip, the weapon jams.

Seeing a Basetian Soldier aim his weapon at Kendar, Captain Gregor shouts, HIT THE DIRT.

If Kendar didn’t follow the Captain’s order, a burst of Bastian bullets would have separated his head from the rest of his body.

Unable to clear his jammed weapon, Captain Gregor turns around and shouts, MEN, LIEUTENANT KENDAR NEEDS COVER FIRE.

Two soldiers rush over, to the Captain’s side and set up their machinegun.

Once their machinegun is in place, while the Captain is searching for a new weapon, one of the machine gunners shouts, LIEUTENANT, BE READY TO RUN AT THE COUNT OF THREE. ONE, TWO, THREE, RUN!

With the machinegun’s bullets, causing the Basetians to keep their heads down, Kendar makes a mad dash for the boulders. While his comrades are reloading their machinegun, as the Basetians are about to fire their weapons, Kendar dives behind the safety of those boulders.

After taking a moment, to catch his breath, he looks at the clear boulders with different curved forms in them and selects one that has a black form in it; which should make it easier for the marks, caused by the termite, to blend in. It’s as tall as he is and has a bigger boulder next to it; which offers him some concealment from the Bastian sharpshooters.

Before he starts drilling the hole, he shouts, KEEP THEM OFF MY BACK FOR FIVE MINUTES MORE. After drilling the hole, he shouts, I’M ALMOST THERE.

Fearing that the Basetians may realize what Lieutenant Kendar is up to, Captain Gregor shouts, KENDAR QUIT BROADCASTING WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND FINISH THE JOB.

After putting the scrolls inside the boulder and sealing the hole, Kendar mumbles, There, I’m done.

While picking up his weapon, duffel bag and laser drill, before leaving, Kendar takes one last look at his handiwork. Realizing the burn marks, didn’t blend in, like he thought they would, in a frantic state, Kendar searches his brain for a solution. Maybe I can roll the boulder, so those marks are concealed by the ground? Yes, that’ll work but, it’s still not good enough. While standing there and contemplating what to do, a bullet ricochets off the boulder. After ducking behind the bigger boulder, Kendar looks behind him, to see if the shot came from there. Seeing, what looks like a canyon, Kendar crawls to it. While staring at the bottom, of the canyon, he notices that it’s littered with boulders and thinks, this is perfect. I’ll roll the boulder into the canyon. Since there are other boulders down there, from this height, it won’t look out of place. And, if by some odd chance they notice the marks, there’s an excellent possibility, they’ll think the fall caused them. Returning to the boulder, that has the Scrolls in it, try as he may, he can’t get it to budge.

After several attempts, a frustrated Kendar shouts, I NEED SOME HELP HERE.

Hearing his request, two men rush to help the Lieutenant. After explaining what he wants, Kendar and the two men struggle with the boulder. On the third attempt, they finally get the boulder to budge. Eventually, momentum takes over and the boulder rolls towards the edge of the canyon. Then, when it looks like it’s going to fall into the canyon, it stops. After a moment of teetering, on the canyon’s edge, the boulder starts to roll backwards. Seeing that, Lieutenant Kendar, while looking for something to shore up the boulder, orders his two men to run towards the boulder and stop it from rolling. With the boulder secure, the three take a short break before making another attempt at rolling it into the canyon.

After a minute’s rest, Kendar looks at the two men and says, OKAY, let’s do this. With the three of them behind the boulder, Kendar says, On the count of three, push as hard as you can. From the sound of the gunfire, the Basetians must be getting closer. If that’s the case, we may not get another chance. When the two agree, Kendar shouts, ONE, TWO, THREE, PUUUSH.

They manage to get the boulder to the edge of the canyon, where it stops; but this time, it doesn’t roll backwards.

In frustration, one of the men utters, I do believe this boulder doesn’t want to fall into the canyon. Then he asks Lieutenant Kendar, Sir, do you suppose that the boulders on this planet are alive?

Kendar replies with, Sargent, even if what you say is true, after what I did to this boulder, I’d say, it’s definitely dead.
