About this ebook

In a city like Dulsatora, where starving artists and desperate rogues walk the greasy streets alongside decadent nobles and steampunk marvels, suspenseful adventures and sizzling encounters are only a heartbeat away. Parvati Nallum is about to embark on her own escapade, one dosed with liberal amounts of erotic release and throat-clenching dread.

Theater owner Parvati Nallum's place of business holds more secrets and trouble than she ever expected. This one holds more than just traitorous actors leaving for other troupes or hacks demanding more pennies for their dreadful dramas, however. Amidst the steam engines in the lowest chambers waits a concealed door, and behind this waits a hidden museum to a single portrait. An erotic rendering of a noble woman when she was a young woman. Finding the painting is one matter, trying to do right by it lands Parvati in a whole mess of trouble.

Can even Gopalan Hajar, Parvati's handsome handyman and sometimes lover, help her escape the tightening noose of trouble before it cinches closed?

Kaysee Renee Robichaud delivers a sizzling and suspenseful erotic steampunk novella that quickens the blood and sets the heart to racing. Fans of Cherie Priest's Clockwork Century and Emma Holly's paranormal erotica will find plenty to savor. (11,000 words)

    About the Author

    Part, the First:

Wherein unforeseen trouble rears its head.

Parvati Nallum never imagined owning a theater could yield so many troubles. The worst began amongst the books and papers crowding her second floor office, as late morning sunshine spilled through the blinds. At first, there seemed no hint of the shadow to come. Here, on the finely upholstered guest's bench that lay along the wall halfway-hidden from the door by a mound of leaflets announcing the current season's run, she shared fevered touches with her handsome Stage Engineer and there was nothing wrong with that. Nothing at all. Of course, shadows festered just outside her door, awaiting their cue.

Parvati was not quite five feet six inches tall, short for a Dulsatorian. She kept her lustrous hair in a tight braid, coiled at the back of her head. By the time she turned twenty, she decided her eyes were her best feature--bright like honey. In the ensuing five years, she discovered a deepening hatred for the way her nose sprawled upon her face's landscape. While her hands and lips were much smaller than she might have wished, this did not stop her wanting them on her lover.

Gopalan Hajar was a proud example of a Dulsatorian man: a six foot tall athletic fellow in his early twenties, his dark hair and complexion revealing unbroken native blood. His manners, however, often surprised her. He avoided the brash Duls male stereotype, instead playing an intensely driven worker--his dedication to whatever project employed his attention was something almost alien to her experience.

Gopalan was a perceptive lover, sensitive to her delicate moods and preferences. Parvati liked to kiss for a while, and he was happy to do so. His lips were softer than they looked, and his tongue was practiced in making her shiver with delight. They shared a secret language of hot breaths and encouraging moans and delicate touches.

Gopalan's hands could work miracles. Before she knew the buttons were undone, one of his hands was upon her, building her fever fires with gentle caresses along her
