GALACTIC TREASURE HUNT IV - Jamie Childress
Prologue
It started out as a typical lazy summer. Jake and his little brother Scott were enjoying their summer vacation, having just graduated from fourth and first grades. Fortunately for Jake and Scott their do-nothing summer blasted off into adventure when a space alien named Nojo landed in the woods behind their house.
Nojo is a space archeologist from a planet in the constellation of Orion. He is searching for lost Delphian treasure. The Delphians are an alien race that vanished thousands of years ago. They left behind fantastic riches all over the galaxy. Nojo is searching for a great treasure called the Pillar of Knowledge.
The Pillar of Knowledge is the ancient computer library of the Delphians. It contains answers to mysteries of the universe and fabulous inventions that could help humans and Orions alike.
When Jake and Scott first met Nojo, they accidentally touched a spherical key he had found. The computer codes in the key were transferred to Jake and Scott. Now they are the key keepers,
and their heads hold the computer keys to unlock the waypoints to the Pillar of Knowledge. A waypoint is like a road sign along the path to the Delphian’s long lost treasure. To find the treasure they have to find the next waypoint.
Nojo needs Jake and Scott to open the waypoints. So he takes them on his adventures to far away places. The brothers’ last three adventures took them to the Moon, Atlantis, and another universe. Now their next adventure awaits.
1 Hurry Up
Jake and Scott found it hard to believe that they had only met their space alien friend Nojo a few weeks ago. Their many shared adventures now bonded them together tightly. So, when Nojo called them on their radios they were ready at a moment’s notice.
Hurry up, Scott!
Jake hollered to his little brother as he headed out the back door. Nojo said he would be in the meadow at nine o’clock on the dot.
I’m coming! I’m coming!
replied Scott, bursting from his room and running for the back door.
You guys playing spaceman again?
their mom asked. Where are you going this time? Visiting friends on Mars?
Nojo says nobody lives on Mars, Mom,
replied Scott, while racing across the backyard. We’re going back in time again.
Have fun
, their mom called after them as they ran into the woods behind their house. And when you’re back in time, if you happen see your great-great-grandmother, tell her I still use her old butter dish!"
Scott caught up to Jake, and the two brothers trotted down the trail toward the meadow where they always met Nojo. Suddenly, a large Monarch butterfly fluttered out of a bush right in front of them.
Wow, that butterfly is huge!
said Scott, stopping to check out the bright orange and black insect.
No kidding!
replied Jake. I think that’s the biggest butterfly I’ve ever seen.
He stood with Scott and watched in fascination as the Monarch flitted for a minute from flower to flower. Suddenly, Jake realized they were going to be late for Nojo. Let’s go. Nojo’s probably here by now.
The boys raced the last bit to the meadow as fast as they could run. Sure enough, Nojo’s ship was already floating there in the meadow. Nojo was standing next to the boarding ramp patiently waiting for them.
Sorry we’re late, Nojo,
said Scott as the boys ran up the ramp and hopped into their seats. We saw a really cool butterfly
No worries,
replied Nojo. We’re headed for the wormhole. We’re going back in time to visit an ancient Earth civilization, the lost civilization of Mu to be exact. They’re familiar with space travelers. So it should be an easy trip.
Nojo touched a few alien symbols on the control console. The boarding ramp quickly closed, and before the boys could even blink, they were in outer space and headed for the Moon.
Jake, I believe it is your turn to take us to the worm-hole,
remarked Nojo as he released the controls.
You got it, Nojo,
said Jake. He expertly guided the craft around the Moon and toward a strange patch of blackness on the backside. When they got close to the wormhole, Jake turned to Nojo and said, She’s all yours for the wormhole entry.
Thanks, Jake. Nice flying,
complimented Nojo. Nojo then took the controls and programmed their path into the computer. The mouth of the wormhole loomed large in front of them, and the stars surrounding it began to shimmer and disappear. Here we go, boys, to the land of Mu.
No sooner had Nojo said the words, when a red warning light flooded the flight deck. A loud mechanical voice erupted from the computer, Collision warning! Evade! Evade!
A chunk of asteroid the size of a school desk was dead ahead, right in the center of the wormhole. It was flying straight for them. The ship’s computer was dutifully programmed to take them on a very tightly controlled trajectory into the wormhole. The computer did not alter course. The mechanical voice continued with its warning, Collision in five, four, three . . .
2 When Are We?
Nojo sprang into action. He grabbed the manual controls and yanked the starship to the left. It was not a moment too soon. The asteroid whizzed past them, barely a few feet away. In that same instant the now familiar singing of the wormhole began. The walls of the wormhole cascaded with fabulous colors and flashes of light.
"Oh
