GALACTIC TREASURE HUNT III - Jamie Childress
Prologue
It started out as a typical lazy summer. Jake and his little brother Scott were enjoying their summer vacation, having just graduated from fourth and first grades. Fortunately for Jake and Scott their do-nothing summer blasted off into adventure when a space alien named Nojo landed in the woods behind their house.
Nojo is a space-archeologist from a planet in the constellation of Orion. He is searching for lost Delphian treasure. The Delphians are an alien race that vanished thousands of years ago. They left behind fantastic riches all over the galaxy. Nojo is searching for a great treasure called the Pillar of Knowledge
. The Pillar of Knowledge is the ancient computer library of the Delphians. It contains answers to mysteries of the universe and fabulous inventions that could help humans and Orions alike.
When Jake and Scott first met Nojo, they accidentally touched a spherical key he had found. The computer codes in the key were transferred to Jake and Scott. Now they are the key keepers
, and their heads hold the computer keys to unlock the way-points to the Pillar of Knowledge. A waypoint is like a road sign along the path to the Delphian’s long lost treasure. To find the treasure they have to find the next waypoint.
Nojo needs Jake and Scott to open the waypoints. So now he takes them on his adventures to far away places. The brothers last two adventures took them to the moon and to Atlantis. Now their next adventure awaits.
1 Another Adventure Begins
Jake and Scott were just finishing breakfast when the little radios started to vibrate in their pockets. They were not the least bit surprised. Nojo had called last night and said he’d pick them up this morning in the meadow. They each took a few final slurps of Toasty-Munchies, grabbed their empty bowls, and put them in the dishwasher, just like any normal morning. It would be the last normal thing they would do all day.
Jake turned to his mom and asked in a very polite voice, Hey, Mom, is it okay if Scott and I go into the woods and play with our space alien friend Nojo?
Then he added, We’ll be back in plenty of time for lunch.
Their mother looked over at the breakfast table and saw they had cleared their bowls as expected. Good job cleaning up, guys. Sure, you can play in the woods. You guys have really gotten into playing spaceman, haven’t you?
she commented. Where are you going this time? Atlantis or the moon?
Nojo says we’re going to another universe,
said Scott, without a hint of joking.
Another universe! Well, that does sound exciting,
replied their mom with a smile. I just hope the moms in that other universe make good peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
Don’t worry,
said Jake, as the boys ran out into the backyard. You’d be the best mom in any universe.
And don’t you forget it!
she called after them with a laugh.
The boys didn’t even bother putting their radios together. They knew that the buzz from Nojo was the signal that he would soon be at the meadow in the woods behind their house. They scurried down the trail fast, in hopes of watching the spaceship arrive. Sure enough, just when they approached the meadow, a rainbow colored flash shot down from the sky and suddenly a spaceship appeared.
The ship looked like a fat stingray floating gently above the ground. With a soft humming sound, a loading ramp appeared at the back end and slowly lowered to the ground. The brothers did not even break stride but simply ran across the meadow and up the ramp as fast as their legs could carry them.
The loading ramp trundled back up with a whir and closed "with a faint click. About half a blink later, the spaceship, and everyone in it, vanished in a rush of light.
2 It Isn’t As Far As You Think
I get to fly when we get to the other universe,
Jake reminded his brother, as he watched Scott pilot the spaceship toward the moon.
Sounds fair to me,
replied Scott, while keeping a sharp eye out for satellites or other alien spacecraft that might be in Earth’s orbit.
Nojo pointed to the black patch of space just on the far side of the moon. Do you see the wormhole, Scott? Head for that patch of space just in front of it, and then I’ll take over before we enter. We’ve got to hit it just right. If we’re not at the correct velocity above light speed, we’ll be in trouble.
Sure, Nojo,
Scott replied, banking the ship slightly to the right and heading for the wormhole.
So, Nojo, I guess I’m still not exactly sure how we go to another universe. If the universe is everything, how can there be other universes?
inquired Jake.
Nojo thought for a moment and then said, As you already know, your solar system is just one of many in our galaxy, and ours is only one of many galaxies in this universe. In much the same way, there are many universes in space-time. The reason your astronomers can’t see them is that you must cross through another dimension to get there, a fifth dimension. What is really weird about the other universes is that they are not far at all. In fact, they are all around us. Even now.
What?
hooted Scott. There’s another universe right here?
He looked around the spaceship’s bridge deck but didn’t see anything that looked like another universe.
I told you it was weird,
said Nojo. Then he went on, "Its like this, everything in this universe is made up of atoms. Those
