Review courtesy of All Things Urban FantasyWITH ALL MY SOUL is the final book in Rachel Vincent’s Soul Screamers series, and it’s an ambitious, go for broke, book. Half the characters have died and been brought back in some form or another, others have been violated and deceived in inexcusable ways, and the few that have managed to grab on to love have left a trail of bitter broken hearts in their wake. And yet, this is the book that promises, and mostly delivers, a happy ending. With so many personal conflicts left to resolve in WITH ALL MY SOUL, it was surprising how dense the plot was. It would have been ambitious on it’s own without having to pull double duty as a series ender. That being said, I wish the balance had been more skewed towards the characters and less on the plot. As it was, there were a lot of pow-wows. The cast of characters is pretty extensive at this point so all the planning/discussions were pretty drawn out and unfortunately a little repetitive. And the character interactions weren’t as rich as I was hoping and consisted mostly of reassurance conversations. Sabine really does have people who love her, Nash really is loved by Tod, Emma really is the same person she always was, Kaylee really isn’t to blame for all the bad things that happen to everyone, Tod really is the brother that Kaylee wants, and on and on.The core relationships in this series have always revolved around Kaylee and the Hudson brothers. For a little more than half the series, Kaylee was with Nash, then for the second half, Tod. As much as I liked Tod and rooted for his HEA with Kaylee, I found myself less and less satisfied with their romance in this book in particular and more and more wishing for Nash again. It didn’t help that Sabine has been, and continues to be, one of the most unlikeable characters ever. Every fiber in my being recoiled when Nash was near her and the resolution between them was extremely forced on me.As for the other character resolutions, I think it’s going to come down to personal preference. I found it rather depressing in a lot of ways. The price Kaylee ends up paying for her ‘happiness’ is so high, so devastating, that it’s hard to move past. And the result is something that divides her from her friends and family in a way that I found incredibly sad. It just made me focus on how stuck she is. That being said, the way the plot unfolded tied the entire Soul Screamers series together extremely well and offered a few juicy twists and turns that made the ending both surprising and satisfying. In the end though, Kaylee has had an incredibly crazy ride. She’s lost and gained so much. I’m happy that she found happiness in the end, I just wish she didn’t have to pay so dearly for it.Sexual Content:Kissing. References to rape. References to sex

How bittersweet. I've absolutely loved this book series. I can't remember a series that pulled at my heartstrings and made me cry, laugh, and feel so much - - especially on audiobook. I've loved Kaylee and her group of misfit friends - - even Sabine and Sophie. I'm so sad to see them go. When I got down to the last two hours of this audiobook, I found myself treasuring every minute knowing that this was the last time I was going to get a new book in this series for the first time. And Rachel Vincent did not disappoint. There was action, laughter, love, betrayal, death - - everything that makes a great book. And can I just say that Tod is the perfect guy. Well, except for that whole being dead thing.

Well, taking in account that I was very disappointed by the previous installment, I didn't have very high hopes for this one. I even decided to wait it out, and pick it when I was sure I was ready for it. But guess what? All that preparation was futile. It didn't really prepare me for what I got.

With All My Soul exceeded whatever high expectations I might've had! It was brilliant, it was mysterious. It was nicely written, nicely thought out. Nicely done overall. Or no, wait. Nicely isn't a strong enough word to summarize my laughter, my tears, my expectations, my hopes for this one. Oh no.

Let me say that Rachel Vincent has once again outdone herself, and I am very very glad about that. Because seriously, we all know how much expectation we, as readers, put into the final installment of a long series. That's like, a lot. We want it to be perfect, brilliant, and in other words - so good that we won't be able to stop thinking about it for at least a week after we've read it! We want to re-read it and cry and laugh every time!

Believe me when I say that I sure will cry and laugh the next time I decide to read it. You will too. If you followed Kay and Tod and Nash, Emma and Sabine and Sophie all those years, you'll be smitten with this one book. WAMS was a thrill ride. A roller-coaster of emotions. Unreachable highs and ultimate lows battled for attention and they sure got it.

So Kaylee... for the first half of the book I thought that all those years we'd spent with her, she hadn't really changed. I mean, the girl always got someone else in trouble for the sake of protecting her soul. Not that she intentionally did it, but you know. And don't get me wrong. I get it. I wouldn't want to hand over my soul to Avari (or another demon) either. But the last quarter of the book made me realize that Kay has indeed changed. So much in fact, that I have to say I was impressed by her. Because of Kaylee, I want to congratulate Rachel: You've done an excellent job with her. Thank you! You have no idea how much this means to me!

And Tod... is still the same smart-mouthed reaper you just can't fall in love with. Unfortunately, I'll always be team Nash. Always. Not that I want him to be with Kay. Oh no. But he's more my type of guy, so yeah :) Sabine is one uncommonly lucky girl.

That would be all. For a spectacular end of a series, THANK YOU AGAIN, RACHEL VINCENT.

After having the book in my bookshelf for about two years, I finally decided it was time I said goodbye to the Soul Screamers universe. This books was completely crushing and so devastating in more than one way. I'd kept myself from reading because I knew it would tear my heart apart when I said goodbye to a series I love and that's been with me for so long. I was not wrong. Actually, I was; it did so much more than that.I'll miss being in Kaylee's head so much. I'll miss the whole gang so bad.

I've given myself a week to process my feelings on this series ending book. Mostly I'm just sad that there will be no more stories with these fabulous characters. I'm also going to try to write this review with as few spoilers as possible.

This is definitely my favorite book in the series. As sad as I am that it's over, I'm so glad I've been able to go on their journey with them. Each of these characters have grown so much throughout the books. I've even been able to respect Sophie. Ok well, tolerate her at least. And just like in the previous novels, Sabine has grown on me. She's my favorite Mara, that's for sure.

Kaylee is fierce. She's grown up so much, and tired of things constantly happening to her and those she loves. This time around she is driven to set up these awful Netherlings. It doesn't help, that Avari keeps popping up unexpected. She's willing to deal with any consequences to keep her family safe. Her only downfall is being open to accepting help. Seriously, she's way more kick ass in this book than she's been in the previous ones. Moving on to Tod..... Well, there's nothing bad I can say about him. He's ridiculously hot, and always charming as usual. Between him and Sabine, I found myself laughing many times. Each character adds their own element to the story.

There are a lot of events that take place. It seems like this crew can never catch a break. Avari will stop at nothing to secure Kaylee's soul. He stoops to all levels possible to get under her skin enough to surrender. But Kaylee finds help in most unlikely of places.

Seriously, if you haven't read this series yet, what the mess are you waiting on??? And if you have, this is a must read. I'm not sure how I'm going to function without anymore appearances from Tod, but I'm happy with how the story ended.

For more reviews, Cover Snark and more, visit A Reader of Fictions.Binge read successfully completed on time! Sadly, I had to switch to audio for the last book View Spoiler », which would not have been my preference, but YAY for binge reads. On the whole I’ve really enjoyed this series, particularly towards the end. Though Soul Screamers never entered the feelsy range, I think that at their best these books are really good. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that Rachel Vincent’s Soul Screamers series is among the best paranormal YA in existence.I know a lot of people weren’t huge fans of the series conclusion, at least compared to the awesomeness of books five and six, but I largely really like what Vincent did with it. Further, I think my main complaint may be people’s favorite part, but I’ll tell you about that later. On the whole, With All My Soul was, though still relatively fluffy, a good, fairly dark conclusion to the Soul Screamers series, with enough of a happy ending to make the readers not too grumpy. It IS a paranormal romance after all, so only I would want it to end with everyone’s dreams crushed.Oh, also, With All My Soul is the first book in the series where the pretty dress cover makes sense. Kaylee does actually wear a fluffy golden dress! The other 9 covers (since these got bound into omnibuses as well as the original covers), though, don’t make a lick of sense. Ah well. Enjoy this one, the only honest cover.Without getting too deep into the plot, at first I found it really annoying. Kaylee kept doing her thing where she puts herself in danger to save others and keeps things from them for the same reason. This girl drives me bonkers, because the main thing others seem to want is for Kaylee not to sacrifice herself but that is ALL she wants to do. However, the way things resolved made all of that kind of worth it, because girl is clever. In terms of the romance, I’m fairly okay with what happened, but still kind of on the fence about it. Kaylee and Tod are good together, but they’re TOO good. They’re so perfect for one another it’s kind of nauseating. You’re probably thinking I’m such a Scrooge or whatever, but hear me out. They basically never fight. When they get angry at one another for totally legitimate reasons, it only lasts for a brief period before they resolve that and start spouting totally cheesy lines at one another again. Their banter is pathetically saccharine. Also, the switch to audiobook set me back a bit too. Ronconi is a skilled narrator, but not personally to my tastes. Her voice is reminiscent of most of the women who narrate paranormal romance (both teen and adult) in a way I can’t qualify but which I generally find grating. She does a really good job making the different characters’ voices distinct. However, I also REALLY didn’t like a lot of the voices. Tod’s for instance is sort of growly like he smokes two packs a day and no. And she applies a southern twang to characters at random, when, in fact, most of them would probably have a bit of an accent, since I think they live in Texas? I should know this by now, but I’m not super setting focused. Either way, the application of the accent felt random. The Soul Screamers series has been a really fun read and I recommend it to others like me who like paranormal YA in theory but have generally been disappointed in practice.

With All My Soul was one of my most anticipated books of 2013. I devoured the Soul Screamers series last year and could not wait for the conclusion. With all the hype I had built up for this book, could it really live up to my expectations? The answer is a resounding YES! I devoured With All My Soul in a matter of 2 days and even stayed up until 2am on a school night (for the kids, obviously) to finish it!

With All My Soul picks up very soon after the ending of Before I Wake. Emma is still adjusting to the end of her former life and the reality of spending the rest of her life in Lydia’s body. With the hellions’ supply of souls gone, the group knows that they can’t cross over any time soon, but they are still able to wreak havoc on the school, leading to it being voted the Most Dangerous School (Of Its Size) in America. Kaylee and her friends know that they have to do something to stop the demons and run them out of town, but how do you stop something that can’t be killed and is more powerful than you are?

Kaylee is facing a host of problems in With All My Soul. Aside to still faking life and having to finish school, there are some side effects to Emma inhabiting a different and, more importantly, a syphon’s body, they still haven’t found Thane and don’t know what’s become of the souls he’s taken, Avari is becoming more impatient and more aggressive in his quest for her soul, and to top it all off, she has attracted the attention of a new demon, the hellion of Wrath.

Kaylee and her friends hatch a far-from-foolproof plan to rid their school of the hellions, and they start putting it into motion immediately. Unfortunately, the plan takes some time to execute, and Avari’s impatience is mounting. When Avari takes someone close to Kaylee to force her hand, she realizes that her plan is no longer going to work. Herein lies the problem: Can Kaylee save the people she loves without giving up her soul for eternal torture to Avari? And even if she does, can she save herself from Wrath?

What I loved best about With All My Soul is that the stakes are higher, and it complicates everything. Kaylee wants desperately to save everyone from Avari and the other hellions, and Tod desperately wants to save Kaylee. This situation ultimately leads to secrets and lies, which adds to the tension of the book. With everything going on, the last thing I wanted to deal with was the possibility of Kaylee and Tod breaking up. However, I firmly believed that their love was strong enough to overcome these things.

I really felt like the characters grew a lot in With All My Soul. There is a certain situation that occurs that makes them have to really figure things out for themselves, and I really enjoyed seeing how they stepped up to the plate.

The tension is high while reading With All My Soul. Since I loved the other books of the series so much, I formed a connection to all of the characters, which is almost unheard of for me. I usually care about one or two characters in a book, but I really found myself attached to all of them. (Well, the good guys, obviously.) There are several scenes throughout With All My Soul when the fate of a character is unknown, and I found myself freaking out a little each time.

While I predicted a hint of the climax and resolution of the book, the full extent of it surprised me. However, I thought that the whole thing was handled excellently and in as realistic of a way as could possibly be expected in this world. The whole thing was way more complicated than I could have imagined, but this was for the best. I don’t like when an ending is too easy or too rushed. I still think about this ending and am still amazed at how it was all handled. I think this was one of my favorite resolutions ever.

There was one thing that was not resolved at the end of the book, and as an information whore, I am DYING over it. It was honestly not hugely important to the overall plot of With All My Soul, but it was just something I wanted to know. (Ooh, just adding this in: According to this interview, there may be one more short story. Hoping it deals with the thing that I didn’t get resolved!)

There is so much more that I would like to say about With All My Soul, but all of it would involve spoilers, so I’ll stop here. If you’ve read it and want to talk about, please contact me! My email is mommysreadingbreak@hotmail.com and I would love to chat with you about it!

In short, I absolutely loved With All My Soul and thought that it was a great finale for this series. With that said, however, I am still a little sad that it’s over, and that I’m saying goodbye to these characters, especially my favorite book boyfriend: Tod.

Kaylee has finally had enough, and is determined to kick hellion butt and ensure that everyone she loves can live in safety. With All My Soul marks the bittersweet end to the Soulscreamers series, and although I am sad to let these characters go, I am really happy with the way everything turned out.Rachel Vincent asks more of her kick-butt heroine in this book than ever before, and all her characters are tested and broken again and again throughout the narrative. The plot is breath-taking - the stakes have never been higher, the rewards have never been sweeter, and the action and drama are sure to make your pulse race. I think this aspect of the novel is brilliantly executed, and I can safely say that not only was I never bored during this book, I found it really hard to put it down, irrationally afraid that I'd miss something! However, there are two scenes in the book that made absolutely no sense to me: when someone close to Kaylee goes missing, she decides to make a series of phone calls to rally the troops, but her first phone call involves her indulging in gossip for two pages before the person she's called asks "So, what's the emergency?", a question which Kaylee doesn't answer.  She then calls the second person on her list, chatting for a few minutes before mentioning that something is wrong. It makes no sense! Further into the book, Kaylee and her friends stand around for three pages discussing how they need to be quick and do something instead of actually doing something. Both these scenes frustrated me and I can't figure out why they are written like that. With All My Soul also compounds the issues I have with Kaylee's character. Kaylee has always been quick to indulge in her martyr-complex and put herself in danger to save others, but here, as if colluding with hellions and making bargains isn't bad enough, she has the gall to call her friends "selfish" and "irresponsible" when they want to do the same. She claims that she knows how hypocritical she's being, but her words and actions betray that she has no idea. Her sacrifices for her friends are justified, to her, because of how much she loves and wants to protect them, but their wishes to do the same reflect on her own inability to keep them safe.Kaylee is also incapable of seeing anything without relating it to herself. Although she is best placed person to help Emma through the changes in her life after her 'death', Kaylee wallows in the guilt she feels for placing Emma in danger and allowing her to die in the first place. I wish Rachel Vincent made Kaylee more believable, because by making her his ultra-perfect hero/martyr she forces her into these situations that make it hard for me to take her seriously. In contrast, I really liked the rest of the cast. It's easy to see how much Nash has grown and how good Sabine has been for him, despite her abrasive personality. Also obvious are the changes in Sophie, who still says the wrong thing most times, but at least she's trying. I think Luca and Emma had distinctly background roles in the book, which is disappointing but makes sense because of their relative lack of power. And of course, Todd - who is my favourite character because he's always there for Kaylee and his family - is still amazing. He's just such an adorable guy.Kaylee and her friends are put through the wringer in this book, and it's a roller-coaster ride you can't miss! I think fans of the series will not be disappointed with how Vincent has chosen to end the series, and those who haven't already done so are encouraged to dip into this tale of love, betrayal and sacrifice, beginning with the first book, My Soul to Take.A copy of this book was provided by the publisher for review. You can read more of my reviews at Speculating on SpecFic.

As 2013 has suddenly become the year of ending series and I was quite disappointed with a few of the final books of other series that have been released, I kept an open mind towards Soul Screamers mostly because I have gotten extremely attached to all of the characters.

I'm glad to say that Rachel Vincent did not let me down. With All My Soul concludes the series wonderfully and it was fantastic to see how much each of the characters have grown since their inital appearances. Kaylee Cavanaugh, a bean sidhe is the main protagonist within the series. She is a female banshee, always wailing prior to any nearby deaths. She is sucked into a world of hell demons, reapers, more banshees, nightmares, and necromancers. Within the span of the seven books, Kaylee has strengthened not only as a bean sidhe, but also as a character. Kaylee has matured into such a selfless and honourable protagonist, it has been wonderful to see her grow.

With All My Soul starts off soon after the conclusion of the previous book in this series, Before I Wake . I don't want to spoil the series, but the general gist of it is that there is a hellion that is after Kaylee Cavanaugh's soul, and he will do anything to get it.

Kaylee proves herself as one of the most selfless characters that I have had the pleasure of encountering, and the amount of pain and suffering that she is willing to endure for those that she loves made the book for me.

When it comes down to it, that is what Soul Screamers is - a story of sacrifice and love that surpasses all barriers.

With All My Soul is a solid, strong conclusion to the series that Vincent has given so much to, and her dedication shows up to the vey last page.

(The only thing that would have been nice would have been an epilogue.. a little update of our couples after their youth years)

Saying good bye to this series was literally hard on me. Even when I bought the book on release day, I let it sit on my shelf for months till I was ready to say good bye. I was nervous as to what would happen to my favorite characters. Being that I have followed this series from the very beginning, even before I was a blogger, it was hard. I still remember the day I bought the first book. A store employee was putting books on the shelf's and I said," Excuse me, do you have any YA paranormal that isn't vampires?" The girl chuckled and looked at her hand which just so happen to have My Soul To Take. She said," Here. Try this one. I read the back and it sounds pretty good." I smiled, gave my thanks and bought the book. Hook. Line. Sinker.Plot: I knew without a doubt that this plot would be filled with lots of tying up loose ends and a big showdown at the end. Once I started the book it was as if I never left. Taking place in Kaylee shoes once again, the reader gets a first hand experience in action and major decisions.Love: Of course I love this LOVE! It's a love that I have been rooting for. It's consuming and breath-taking. To see what these two people have gone through and still come out on top, leaves me speechless. I adore how they shared moments of great love and sadness. But most of all, I adored how well it ended for them.Ending. I anticipated the ending more than anything. When I was half-way through, questions began popping in my head. I wondered how in the end will they get peace. Through clever tactics and smart wording, Kaylee managed to save those she loves with a great sacrifice. With All My Soul is gripping and successful. A creative story that promises deeper emotions and a superb ending, With All My Soul excels all prior installments. Completing the series, With All My Soul rocks!

Kaylee is feeling a whole lot of guilt. Her friends and family have been through so much and a number of people from school have been killed, all because a hellion is determined to own Kaylee’s soul; something she must be willing to give up freely. The stakes are upped in this final chapter in the series when Kaylee’s dad is taken to the Netherworld. Deemed the most dangerous school in the country, the gang decides that the only way to stop the three hellions that are working together is to use their own specialties against them; greed, envy and vanity.I have to admit that after reading the prior book, the series was feeling somewhat stale to me even though some really big things had happened. I still enjoyed that book but things were getting repetitious and I had no plans on buying this last one, not realizing it was the last book in the series. But I had a chance to get this free for review, and while still feeling somewhat slow and repetitious I can honestly say that I’m glad I read it.Emma is having a difficult time wearing Lydia’s body. Not just the fact that it’s smaller and not as pretty, but it comes with Lydia’s gift/curse of siphoning other’s overloaded emotions; making her experience them as her own. And who knew we’d ever actually come to like Sabine and Sophie? A great wrap up is done, both with situations as well as individual relationships. We get plenty of drama and emotion, along with the introduction of another hellion who is more powerful than the others. Kaylee takes on a lot by herself while reminding others they all must work as a team. Even they realize how hypocritical she’s sounding. But two things she’s learned to do really well as she’s grown in this series, is planning and negotiating. Those aspects are very important to the series outcome. The entire series is well-developed in both the world building and the characters, which if you’re read the prior books, you’ll feel very invested in the outcome of most of them. This could be read as a stand alone; enough background information is given to get you through it. But you’d be missing out on a lot, especially on how everything evolved to get where it is. It’s difficult to believe that the majority of the series take place within about 6 months and how much Kaylee and her friends grow during that time as so much happens.Grab some tissues when reading this book. You’ll need them.Read for Amazon Vine Voice

My Fast and Furious Take: While not as heartbreaking as I anticipated, With All My Soul is definitely a dark and dangerous entry in Rachel Vincent’s Soul Screamers series. Providing plenty of answers (and a couple loose ends), an exciting new character in Wrath, romance, and a quick glimpse of where each character ends up, With All My Soul is a thrilling conclusion to this wonderful series.Digging Into the Details: I’ve been dreading finishing the Soul Screamers series because it is one of my favorites and I wasn’t ready to say good-bye to these characters yet. But I buckled down, picked up my ereader, and lost myself in Rachel Vincent’s world of banshees, reapers, hellions, and high school one last time. With All My Soul takes one of the darkest turns of the series as Kaylee makes an incredible sacrifice for her friends and family, bringing the story to a fitting and thrilling conclusion. It is the perfect ending for Kaylee and company with its moments of humor and heartbreak but, surprisingly, I wasn’t as emotionally ripped apart as I expected. Maybe because it WAS the perfect ending and fit so beautifully with the series, or maybe because I just find it so difficult for anything to top my emotional attachment to If I Die. I know several reviewers, however, who were shredded by this book, so your mileage may definitely vary.Another surprise was how much I liked the new character of Ira, the hellion of Wrath. Now he’s a hellion so he is definitely NOT a nice guy, but I loved his exuberance and smoothly dangerous character. It was very cool to discover more about hellions and see that Avari isn’t the most dangerous one around. (Not very reassuring, actually.) Ira turned out to be pivotal to Kaylee’s plan to rescue everyone she loves from Avari’s continual harassment, and I thought it was brilliant how he fit into the story.Since this is the final book of the series, I was hoping for some closure on different issues. How is Emma dealing with a new body? Will Nash ever get over Kaylee and his anger with Tod? Where will Sabine go now that her foster mom is out of the picture? Can Avari be defeated? What in the WORLD does Luca see in Sophie? The answers are here, and I was very happy with them. (Okay, I didn’t really get an answer to that last question, LOL.)It was fascinating to see Emma dealing with a whole new body and how her self-esteem was impacted by the change. I would guess that some of the things she was struggling with would be similar to an amnesiac trying to recognize themselves in a mirror and drawing a blank. Very interesting stuff. In addition, Tod and Nash FINALLY talked out their differences, courtesy of an intervention by Kaylee and, frankly, it’s about time! This was one of my favorite scenes of the book, from the discussion between Kaylee and Nash to his confrontation with Tod. I loved the way this thread was tied off by Vincent. I also loved the way Sabine has settled into Kaylee’s extended family (who would have thought?), and Sophie’s development in this story. Both girls are always great for laughs because neither has any kind of filter and the most unexpected things pop out of their mouths, which is why I think I like them so much. Kaylee and Emma are so nice that it’s great to have Sabine and Sophie balancing them out.And then there is Kaylee’s plan to eliminate Avari from their lives forever. It was quite incredible and called for a major sacrifice on her part that I didn’t expect, but made perfect sense in the Soul Screamers mythology. I thought this was handled very well by Rachel Vincent, who managed to show enough of what Kaylee went through to make an impact but not so much that it went over the top. It was a delicate line and she balanced it beautifully. One thing I never questioned was the relationship between Kaylee and Tod. I adore their romance, so I was very happy to have several scenes with just the two of them. These were the most emotional scenes of the book for me, especially when Kaylee laid out her plan and Tod realized he couldn’t protect her. His devastation was heartbreaking. After making it through the darkness of Kaylee’s sacrifice, it was wonderful to finish off with a quick look at these characters four years down the road in the final chapter. Seeing how the various relationships turned out and where everyone settled was an incredible treat and something I didn’t expect. But, boy, I missed Alec.I did have a problem, though, with some random loose ends that were left by Rachel Vincent (I’ll be as vague as possible to avoid spoilers). In this final book, she introduces the idea of “soul mates.” I liked the way Vincent framed the concept, and how it played into the recovery of Tod’s soul after Levi took it in book five, If I Die; I didn’t like how it left the ultimate fate of someone close to Kaylee in question. There is also the matter of Lydia and her escape from Lakeside Mental Hospital. I didn’t feel it was necessary for Vincent to circle back to this issue, especially when she ended up leaving it unresolved the way she did (aren’t there going to be officers coming to track her down?). I understand the need for the first thread, even though leaving it unresolved really bothered me, but the second one has me stumped.Other than the loose threads that I wish hadn’t been left dangling, Rachel Vincent balances danger, romance, heartbreak and hope as she brings the Soul Screamers series to a satisfying conclusion in With All My Soul. It was extremely difficult to say good-bye to the characters I have grown to love over the years, but I couldn’t be more thrilled with how it all turned out.
