    Story = 3.5 Writing = 2.5

This book was so-so. The writing was poor, somehow the narrator was all-knowing. I mean how does she know what everyones thinking??? I didn't know she was a telepath...
Also, I predicted (almost) everything, and that's never fun. But the story was okay.... The romance was entertaining. But the main character is annoying.

The characters were a bit flat and the story could have been paced better. And I didn't need to know everytime the main couple touched each other. They started to sound like leeches after awhile. Yes, teens can be that way. Do I need to read it over, over, over...no. That does not make you a character. Just annoying.

This book is the first book in the series Soul Screamers by Rachel Vincent. I immensely enjoyed this book a lot. I was hooked from the start. I really loved many of the characters but I do not know how I feel towards Nash. I don't find I like him. I really like Kaylee's Uncle and her dad. I find them really interesting characters who have a really deep personality. I absolutely despise Kaylee's aunt and her cousin *Sophie*. And I am not sure how I feel about Emma.

The interesting thing about this book was the concept of Bean- sidhes and death. How if one person is supposed to die but is saved someone else must die in exchange which then means that that person who lived is living on borrowed time. At first I thought I would hate this book because I am not a fan of books that involve either Angels, or half humans or robots as characters. Vampires are alright but anything else no. But I found I liked this book because she still looked Human and blended in with others. She just had like special abilities and although she looked human was not.

I also liked all of the surprises. Kaylee being a Bean- sidhe, Emma having supposed to die (well not really but still in a way they saved her and someone else Julie died in exchange). The end where Sophie practically died and was saved and then where Aunt Val died.

The one thing which annoyed me about this book was the length and the depth. To me it looked long because it looked thick when I borrowed it and there were a lot of words on each page. But literally it was not that long. Things happened to quickly and too fast that many things the reader could predict.
I practically predicted that Emma would die and then Kaylee and Nash would save her. I predicted it before it happened. And I also predicted the whole borrow time thing. I realised after a while before it was revealed in the book that Kaylee must have died when she was younger and that her mother and father must have saved her only for her mother to die.
Also other than that I felt the book was not in depth even though it WAS REALLY GOOD.
    Things happened too fast.
    EXAMPLE:
    girl dies at club
Another girl dies at the cinema
(Nash and Kaylee technically become a couple)
    Meredith Cole dies
She finds out she is a bean- sidhe
    They visit the reaper
Save Emma only for Julie to die
dad comes home, Sophie dies they bring her back only for Aunt Val to die. You found out who the reaper that was poaching souls was.
Then you had the end bit with the conclusion etc.

    The end.

For me I just felt everything was bunched up and happened to quickly. There wasn't a good time frame for this book in my opinion.

Though, I recommend all of you to read this book because it is amazing, brilliant and I really liked it. I only gave it 4/5 because of the last point I made.

Fantastic paranormal teen read on a subject not often explored - banshees!

2/3 starsI read this at the insistence of two certain young ladies - you know who you are - and for that reason, I'm sorry I didn't enjoy this book - although I did warn beforehand that it wasn't quite my thing *pointed expression*. I might put the rating up to 3 stars, I haven't decided yet.Kaylee Cavanaugh has the ability to sense when someone is about to die. If she sees someone who's death is imminent, something takes control of her and induces her to scream uncontrollably. Her boyfriend Nash appears to know more than he first let on and eventually he tells her that she is a bean sidhe - a banshee. At the time of this discovery, teenage girls are dropping dead for no apparent reason. Nash and Kaylee set out to discover the truth and find that the blame for these deaths apparently lies on the shoulders of a rogue grim reaper - yet the ultimate truth is somewhat more shocking.I had a few big issues with this book. One of them was Kaylee. What girl finds out she's not human and then barely freaks out? What girl learns the truth about herself and then instantly demands to know more? OK, I can understand it in one respect - she's always known she was different, and learning that she's a banshee might actually make sense. But to suddenly find out all of this - hasn't there got to be a point where it's a little too much and she needs time to fully absorb it? Maybe I'm reading too much into it, maybe there are people who could actually instantly cope with that sort of information. But I felt that her acceptance was a little too quick. Then there's the issue of her learning that her aunt and uncle have been lying to her her whole life. Not only that, they had her hospitalised after they couldn't get her to stop screaming one day in the past. Now if that was me, and I'd found out my aunt and uncle had done such a thing, I would have been furious. Outraged. Hurt. Betrayed. Yet Kaylee is angry for all of five seconds. And then when her dad arrives - could the author not have taken just a little time to focus on his appearance? To focus a little more on Kaylee's reaction at seeing him after all these years?Another problem was the story-telling. For me it felt like there was too much dumping of information. Chunks of explanation. Some of it was OK - a bit of asking, a bit of answering, finding out more about bean sidhes. Yet some of it could have been spread out a bit more. And there were parts that were somewhat repetitive. I would have liked to see some more emotional scenes and a bit of variation in plot, things that would make me warm to Kaylee more than I did. That's not to say this book was totally bad. It definitely had its good points - like finding out the origins of the banshee in Irish folk tales, and the Netherworld. Nash was another, of course. Maybe not as intriguing or swoon-worthy as some other book boyfriends I could mention, but he was sweet, warm and never treated Kaylee like an idiot. He was concerned about overloading her with information, but he always respected her need to know more.Overall, I didn't love this book, but I didn't hate it either. I might have rated this a little harshly; I think the problem is now that I've read some amazing, breath-taking books and so the bar is set a little higher. Who knows, I may end up re-thinking the number of stars it deserves. I am by no means telling anyone not to read this - I know there are people who love it to bits, and it's not completely riddled with flaws. It just wasn't my cup of tea. I am curious enough to read the second one, however.

I've seen this book pop up now and then for a while now, and finally decided to see what it was all about. I was really interested in the whole banshee thing and the other world that lived around them. The relationship between Nash and Kaylee definitely moved very fast. I appreciate the fact that Kaylee didn't freak out and refuse to acknowledge the fact that she was a banshee and basically got to the point of the story, but for some reason, the fact that their relationship moved so quickly bothered me.Overall, this was a solid good read for me, but I don't know if I'm interested enough to move to the next book.

I really liked My Soul to Take! It was interesting and fun as well as pretty suspenseful. I liked Kaylee a lot and thought that the paranormal aspect was really unique. At least I've never read about Banshee's before. ;) Some parts were extremely touching and well written. I almost cried during one particular scene. I had figured out one of the "secrets" pretty early on, but I definitely didn't see the ending coming. Overall, I really enjoyed both the prequel and this first full-sized novel, and I'll definitely be reading the rest of the Soul Screamers books. Additionally, I thought the narrator did a great job on this book. (Amanda Ronconi) I've heard her read a few other books as well and almost couldn't believe she was the same person. She is a very talented reader.

I am still dumbfounded over My Soul to Take, so if my review comes out in rambles, sorry ahead of time. I first have to say thank you to Katrina for recommending this book. I probably wouldn’t have picked it up if she hadn’t highly suggested I read it. Kaylee was a great main character. I kind of wished though she had more individualism. It seemed like she was constantly wrapped in Nash or trying to figure out who she was or what was the reason of the deaths. Her character was strong and I liked that no matter what happened she took it in strides. She might have had a tiny freak out, but that is understandable. I guessed right off the bat what Kaylee was and I’m not really sure how I did. I remember hearing that phrase before and her actions made me think of that. I am very surprised how easy she took the news though. Kaylee was just kind of like “oh ok, could have been worse.” Which the way she was thinking about what could have been wrong, I guess it was easy for her to be okay with it.The reason for the sudden deaths was insane. I know it goes back to the ending, in that I never saw it coming. I also can’t believe that Kaylee’s family lied to her this whole time and her father just abandoned her. Her aunt and uncle did some things I don’t think were necessary and I think everything could have been handled better by just begin truthful. It was hard to see what really happened to Kaylee’s mom. It was good to see though that she learned she couldn’t take her life for granted. Tod seems like a great character, but I am not sure of why there is an obsession surrounding him. I only got a glimpse of him in the first book, so I haven’t decided how I feel about him. I am still Team Nash and I love his character. I want my own Nash. I hope later on he doesn’t make me regret saying that. At first I thought it was going to be the typical popular guy trying to get an extra notch in his belt, but it wasn’t that way at all. He is sweet, nice, and caring to Kaylee. The connection between them was undeniable. I loved how sensual he could be and the chemistry was amazing. Also he is the only person that seems to want to be honest with her. I know Nash made a point of saying why he wanted to be around Kaylee, but I mean wouldn’t he have done it sooner. Was he really clueless about her or did he just wait? The ending was incredible. It was something I had no idea was coming. I was speechless when I read it and still shocked about it. It is definitely an ending that will stick with you for awhile. This is a book you should give a chance if you haven’t. My Soul to Take is full of twists and turns. So many things happen you don’t see coming and the ending will leave you wanting to run out and go get the second book to see what happens next.

I didn't expect myself to like this, but I really did. I am not a fan of romances, but this was really good. Rachel Vincent has taken a well worn genre, and made it something very new and interesting. I loved all the weirdness and strange plot twists.

I absolutely loved this book. I love the storyline, I love the characters and I absolutely LOVED the fact that I never saw the twist at the end coming. I can usually see what's coming, but I did not see this coming at all.I love Nash and Kaylee. I don't really care for Tod. I also did not see Tod being Nash's brother, either. I was stunned by a lot of the plot twists and I could not wait to start the next book. I was quite glad that I had it on my Kindle already. That's a sign of a great series and I think this is going to be one of them.

The Soul Screamers series approaches supernatural beings that I haven't yet encountered before in my reading. The concept of Banshees (Bean Sidhes) is new to me and so it was definitely a refreshing subject to read about. I absolutely love the world Rachel Vincent crafts here. I was initially drawn to this series by the prequel, My Soul to Lose, and if I'm being honest, I enjoyed the prequel even more than I enjoyed this first book in the series. The prequel introduced us to Kayleigh's need to wail when someone near her was about to die. I was fascinated and excited to pick up the first book. Unfortunately, as I kind of expected, the first book was bogged down by an instant romance, taking away from the world that Rachel Vincent was building, which is a shame since the mythology only gets even more involved and interesting here. The Grim Reapers and Tod as a character were really great additions to this story. I love the explorations into death and learning about the details of the involvement of the Grim Reapers and the different parts male and female bean sidhes can play. The plot was fast moving and the ending was satisfying. It did not feel like a cliffhanger but a complete story, which is very important for a series, but it still managed to leave me wanting more. The one thing that I really didn't like about this novel was a prominent enough part of the book to affect my rating. The romance between Nash and Kayleigh was formed too quickly to be believable. Kayleigh found herself wondering if Nash only had feelings for her because of what they have in common, and I did too, because what else was there? Kayleigh spends much of the story getting distracted by Nash's arms, hands, mouth and the swirling depths in his eyes and it caused me to roll my own non-swirly eyes on several occasions. She also frequently wonders what he could possibly see in her because of course he is ~beautiful~ and the most popular guy in school. Do we really have to keep writing heroines this way? Heroines who spend the entire day thinking about a boy and wondering how they could possibly deserve him? Can't our supernatural heroine have a little more confidence and focus on the much more important things she has going on without constantly thinking about a boy's "gravelly chuckle" and how it sent a "bolt of heat" blazing through her? At this point when it comes to a lot of YA romance I am hoping someone does a follow up. Can we look in on these romances a few years down the line when she's had to listen to him snoring at all hours and watched him forget to wash his hands after pooping a few times? Because I think the inner monologues would really align with reality then.I will definitely be continuing on with this series. Romance aside, the story is one of the most original I've come across in the paranormal genre lately. I hope that future books focus more on everyone's abilities and the Reapers instead of pretty boys.Recommendation: Anyone in the mood for some paranormal candy that ventures away from the usual vampires/werewolves. You can check out the prequel for free if you go to its Goodreads page.

I LOVED this book. To be honest, I am actually pleasantly surprised by how much I loved it. Based on the synopsis, I was expecting something about a girl hung up on the “hottest guy in school,” with some awkward standard paranormal elements added in to make a typical YA paranormal+romance story concoction. However, this book had none of that, for which I am very grateful. My Soul to Take is refreshingly original, beautifully written, and something you should not miss out on. My favorite thing about this book was the paranormal/mythology components present. This is my first time reading a book about banshees, and it proved to be a very enlightening and entertaining read. I liked learning the mythology behind banshees (view spoiler), and it is nice to have some deviation from the typical vampire/werewolf/faerie/[insert any other common fantastical being here] stories found in abundance nowadays. The characters were well-crafted, and for what feels like the first time in a long time, none of them annoyed me. Kaylee is definitely one of the better female leads out there, and she is smart and quick on her feet. I am partially in love with Tod and his snarky demeanor, and I hope we get to see more of him in the next book. Nash was a little too one-dimensional for my tastes, but I did not mind him so much. The romance between Nash and Kaylee suffers from insta-love, and it was my least favorite part of the book. I am actually hoping for something to happen between Tod and Kaylee myself, since Tod actually has some (interesting) depth to him and I loved the interactions between the two of them. However, this book does not focus on the romance that much, so Kaylee and Nash’s relationship was bearable. Maybe I am just over the whole ‘popular playboy who falls for the unnoticed one’ dynamic, but nonetheless, I am hoping something to develop between Kaylee and Tod. *crosses fingers* Maybe I should just be happy with what I get and be appreciative of the fact that there is no love triangle. A bad romance trumps a love triangle any day. This book has become one of my new guilty pleasures. I am almost embarrassed to admit how much I am looking forward to reading the second book! My Soul to Take was SO GOOD, and if the next book, My Soul to Save, is even half as good as this one, then I am sure I will love it. This story is imaginative and rather unprecedented, and I cannot wait for more. Here’s to finding a new series to obsess over.

Yay, something different from the usual faerie/vampire/werewolf/fallen angel YA's populating the shelves! I really enjoyed this look at something new, and the mystery and characters weren't too shabby, either. Definitely going to continue reading this series to see where else the author takes her mythology. And I'm looking forward to more Tod! He's the most intriguing character for me personally, by far, and I definitely want to know more of his story.

Interesting characters they are.Add me to the list of people who loved this book!

I can’t believe it took me so freakin’ long to read this totally, awesome, amazing book, and I can’t believe I just let it sit on my bookshelf collecting dust…literally!!! I actually had to dust it off before I started reading it. But as soon as I picked up My Soul to Take, I pretty much read the whole book in one sitting. Yeah, I did go to bed at 2am, but as soon as I woke (while still in bed!), I picked it back up and finished it. The ending was pure torture! And I’m not talking about a crazy cliffhanger or even about the actual ending of the book. I’m talking about pretty much the last 70 pages where I had tears streaming down my face. And THEN I cried…and then THAT led to sobbing. And just when I thought the sob fest was over, something else would happen and I would start bawling all over again. Before I started reading, I didn’t fully know what this book (or the Soul Screamers series) was about; the only thing I really knew is that several of my blogger friends are absolutely in love with the series, and they all have the major hots for a particular grim reaper. But when I picked up My Soul to Take, I quickly learned that the story was a modern story with some Irish bean sidhe mythology thrown in. Who would have thought that such a story would totally rock…a story with a female who screams and wails when someone is about to die or when someone actually does die? There were more than enough crazy, heartbreaking and horrific moments and twists in My Soul to Take. Some of the twists I put together pretty early on, but several I did not at all see coming! But I have to admit; even when this one particular twist (that I did predict) finally did present itself, it still had a major effect on my emotions.I love the cute romance between Nash and Kaylee! They seem so cute together. But I have to say that it did bother me quite a bit that Kaylee kept insisting that Nash just HAD to be there holding her hand in some parts of the book. I wanted to tell her that she needed to not be so freakin’ needy! But, I did understand that she had some major trust issues. What I loved most about My Soul to Take is that the story moved really quick and it kept me entertained from the first page until the very last! I will be harassing all of my friends to start reading this series.

Amazing book. The Bean Sidhe have long been part of Celtic lore. I don't know of any other author who has created an entire series about the bean sidhe. The characters in this book are incredible. Kaylee and Nash are a great couple. The intensity of Kay's feelings as the Bean Sidhe are wonderfully displayed by the author. I have to say, one of my favorite characters is the grim reaper, funny and cute at the same time. Can't wait to read the rest of the series

This book Follows Kaylee a Bean Sidhe (a.k.a banshee) through her journey of discovering her family heritage that she believed to be nothing but old folk tales. She lives with her aunt and uncle because her dad left after her mother's death... and she has been seeing things nobody else can see and her aunt and uncle lead her to believe she is crazy. Later thanks to a hot guy named Nash, who is more clued in on who and what kaylee is than she is, Kaylee realizes she isn't crazy, she's a banshee and is hurled into a world of grim reapers and netherworld creatures she only ever thought existed in fairytales. This book is the first in a series entitled soul screamers.I love this book! I have never read a book about banshees or should I say Bean Sidhes. Rachel Vincent is an amazing author and I love how she makes the characters relatable. I found this book to be a page turner, I didn't want to put it down and am excited to read the other novels in this series.

This novel surprised me so much! For the first few chapters it seemed like it was just going to be the atypical YA novel. Average girl meets hot guy, hot guy knows secret about average girl, they fall in love and badda-boom! End of story. But whoa. It so took an unexpected turn. I won't lie, Kaylee and Nash's relationship still developed way too fast. Unnaturally fast. I'm not sure whether I like them together or not because I've yet to seen any sort of depth or evidence in their relationship that makes me want them to be together. Unless you count their frequent hot kisses, but I don't so I need a little more emotional evidence which is something Kaylee wants too. She doesn't just go, "Oh to hell with it. I'm kissing a hot guy, I don't care if we barely have any emotional connection what. so. ever." She questions the authenticity of their relationship. Something that bothered me was she never really discussed the relationship with Nash but there's so many other things going on I don't really blame her.Kaylee's a really strong lead. She's totally kick-ass. I can really see her standing her place and growing with every book. She's a character to watch for, one I personally am excited to see more of. My biggest complaint with her is when she's with Nash. I'd just hear over and over how comfortable he made her feel, how calming he was, and how he-- yea, okay, I get it. Nash is freaking awesome but can we move on? I didn't really fall in love with Nash either. He's the typical male lead. Hot, soothing, and his kisses are out of this world. He does have some personal demons but they don't make him a brooding emo which was nice. I would just like to see more of his personality, which hopefully will happen with the next book. Now to the plot. Oh my freaking ninjas, I'm in love with this plot! This is one of the most original plots in YA I've read in years, folks, years. It had so many twists and turns I just did not see coming. Rachel Vincent did a fantastic job with it. The ending was just whoa and a character I once hated, then sympathized for, I ended up hating but then sympathizing for all over again. Jury's still out on whether or not I feel sorry for that character or if I hate them. Probably little bit of both. But still, I love the new elements Vincent brought and making me think twice about a creature I once just completely ignored. The things that bothered me though were the overuse of italics. A certain word (you'll know which one when you read it) was often italicized, then it wasn't italicized. Which confused me. Also I feel like there were just one too many ellipses in here. But that's just me. Rachel Vincent's writing is fantastic though and I could easily see it becoming one of my favorites. Soul Screamers was a pleasant surprise. I was so wary when I started it but man, once the plot starts it don't stop. It's a full on ride that I enjoyed every bit. I'm definitely picking up the next book at my next Border's trip. Well done, Ms. Vincent!

Kaylee Cavanaugh has a big secret. One that already led her to a mental institution after screaming like crazy in the middle of a shopping mall. But somehow she knows she is not nuts. She knows, deep inside her, that she feels something when someone is about to die... Or at least that's what she needs to believe because the only other option is just too frightening...Her questions finally get an answer from the most unexpected person: Nash Hudson, the handsome and popular guy at her school who knows everything. Despite her initial doubts about him, Kaylee decides to risk it after Nash, in the middle of a meltdown, helped her control the scream that was trying to escape her mouth. But her premonitions will come very handy when she learns that there's some kind of problem going on: the teenager she saw while talking with Nash at the bar is dead and she knew it was going to happen... and now another teenager just drop-dead too out of nowhere. Could it be possible that she can prevent them from dying? How can she do it when the only thing she does is scream her heart out every time she is close to them?!Now there's only two questions left: is Kaylee ready to learn the truth about herself? Does she understands that by learning the truth a whole new world full of danger, premonitions and new questions will emerge? Most importantly, is she ready to meet Tod?Personal opinion:Where to begin with? I think I'm still too amazed to be able to offer an impartial review. That's how GOOD and AMAZING it was. The whole concept that the soul songs encircle is so... romantic, so personal and sweet that it makes me smile; and that's the only little spoiler you are going to get from me, hopefully it will make you want to know what I'm talking about. But first things first. The mythology surrounding My Soul to Take was not only refreshing but also perfectly developed and told. I've read already too many books about angels, werewolves and, obviously, vampires; and although I'm not going to stop reading about these amazing creatures I have to admit that the world Rachel Vincent has created captured me from page one.Kaylee's screams make me ache for her, make me want to give her a tight hug and help her believe she wasn't crazy. But most important, I can't even explain how much I liked her strength and courage during the whole book. Now she only needs to improve her low self-esteem a little bit.Now for the romance part of the book I have to admit -hands down- that Rachel did an amazing work. I mean, I can't even think of choosing between Nash or Tod. I may need to read more books or I may never know who to choose. So far all I can say is: Can I keep them both? Because together they would be the perfect combination. In one side we have Nash, the handsome guy at her school that begins to talk to her for no apparent reason and guides her through her fears out of pure kindness. He is just too caring, sweet and hot. Then we have Tod, the Tod I've been hearing about a lot and now I understand why. He is the bad-sexy-dark-handsome guy who has a soft spot that only shows to Kaylee. To finish I want to say two things: If you haven't read this series yet order the books right now, all of them if you can, I assure you you are going to love them all.

Plus, brand new boyfriend, Nash, is so devoted I almost have a crush on him myself. This book takes on the Banshee element of Paranormal and its not one I've read about before. The whole premise of Irish Banshees was fully covered, and understandable. Wrapped into a likeable story and realistic situations this action packed adventure is definitely one to get your hands on.

It is super important to mention that I “read” this book in the form of an audiobook. I was NOT a fan of the narrator and it completely ruined the story for me. It took me a while to finish because I always fell asleep when I was listening to it. The voices of the reaper Todd and Nash...well they sounded like the turtle Crush from Finding Nemo...a stoner surfer turtle? I know it’s harsh to judge the book on how it was read to me, but I will admit that I didn’t like the premise of the book either...banshees...oh dear. Maybe it is just my previous experiences with banshees only include encountering them while playing Fable 2. (I know that probably sounds absurd.) But I really just could not get into this book, had a hard time picking it up, and was relieved to finish it. I can’t even remember how it ended, honestly. I know that a lot of people really loved this book, but I think the audiobook ruined it for me. I don’t think I’ll be using audiobooks much in the future because the narrator has the power to ruin how I perceive the books. With that said, I don’t think I’ll be reading any more of this series...it’s just not my “thing”.

I did want to like this book but when Nash started to explain about how the term used by both male and female Sidhe was Bean Sidhe, I had to put the book away for a few hours. NO!All shades of wrong are there. Bean is the Irish word for woman, Fear is the Irish word for Man. Even if generally the only version of Sidhe (which is the generic, non-gendered or even male occasionally term for the race, or even using Duine (singular) or Daoine (plural) as a qualifier as a person of the Sidhe) that really makes itself known or occasionally seen by humans are the females, there is a term for both genders. It is used in Irish legend, there's no excuse for this. Even if the explination was that humanity in general only know the females, the men wouldn't use the female term for themselves, nope, there is really no way. People don't refer to themselves by misued names, they use their own terms, they correct misguided fellow members. So when I got to this stumbling block my willing suspension of disbelief was shattered. Suddenly I couldn't just ride the story and let minor stuff go, and they kept saying it. Suddenly instead of enjoying a story I was ranting on twitter about the wee folk. Outside of this the story wasn't bad. Kaylee Cavanaugh thinks that there's something wrong with her, she has an overwhelming compulsion to scream at people who have a strange black aura and die shortly afterwards. This landed her in a psychiatric ward before so she really fears it. Her father left her with her aunt and uncle and she's trying to get through life without incident. Nash is one of the best-looking boys in the school, and he appears to know more than he should about what's going on with her. And then from a few sentences they state that a man who has been living in Ireland for over a decade doesn't sound like he's from Ireland, somehow I don't think that a long-lived race wouldn't adopt some protective colouring when they move state or country, and one of the easiest protective colourings to adopt is at least a slight accent. But that's a minor quibble with this and something that I would have let slide if it hadn't been for the earlier gaffe.Overall the story was okay, there were some times when what was happening felt forced and I would like to read more in the series but a little bit of research would have helped.

This book started off on the right foot. I was interested by what was going on with Kaylee and the characters around her (although I was most interested in Tod, who didn't get much focus in the book). I was interested in a young adult urban fantasy about creatures I hadn't yet read a story about. But as the story wore on, it wore on my patience. Maybe I should have known to expect it. When I saw that the book was a Harlequin Teen book, I expected PG-13 smut. However, it appears that a teen romance simply means that the main character and her love interest decided they were made for each other almost immediately after meeting. That's not my cup of tea. Kaylee and Nash's relationship seemed very artificial, as there were no layers of depth and no development to speak of. I believe people can only fall in insta-lust, not insta-love, so it was quite annoying to me. Given that this is one of the cornerstones of the book, I found it very hard to finish the book even though the story had an interesting plot. The book does have a good plot (although some of the twists are very predictable, at least to me), so if you don't mind a quickly developing romance, you will probably like it more than I did. I'd recommend it to people that can stand Twilight. To me, the writing is better, but the main relationship has about the same depth.

Teen series about a girl who screams bloody murder when someone is about to die. While trying to discover who she is and why she does this, she meets a very handsome guy who she falls in love with. A nice story that is about something different then the normall paranomal read.

I will honestly say that I'm surprised that I liked this book as much as I did. I mean I've been reading Rachel Vincent's stray series about werecats (which I have thoroughly enjoyed I might add), so when I saw this series by her, I figured I would give it a try. I wasn't really expecting much because the summary sounded so generic and flaky. Fortunately, it was anything but. When Kaylee sneaks into a club with her best friend, Emma, she is met with a chilling sight. A girl there is enshrouded in dark shadows, and Kaylee can't look at her without wanting to scream her lungs out. She thinks this girl is going to die and she's right. But where do these odd premonitions of Kaylee's come from and what is the outcome when she gets mixed up with banshee's, grim reapers, and the Netherworld?I loved the idea behind Kaylee's character. The whole soul screamers thing was brilliant but I did feel like her character could have been developed a little more. As could Nash's character. Really the only problems I had with the book were the character development of those two and how their relationship came to be. It just happened with no lead up to it. *Bam* they're in the club and he helps her through one of her screaming episodes. Next day they're basically an item. It was kind of too sudden to be realistic.Other than that it was very well done. I have to say that Vincent does have a certain flair that makes her books stand out. I can't wait to read the next one. And I hope they go more into Tod's character! He was my favorite!

Kaylee Cauvanaugh is just a regular high school Junior. She has a best friend that she loves, she has a crush on the hottest boy at school and she knows when someone will die. Kaylee's life is turned upside down when a bunch of girls from her high school starting dropping dead and she may be the only one who can save the next intended victim. I was not expecting this book to go down the urban fantasy road. I expected something along the lines of The Body Finder where an everyday girl learns that she has a special talent and has to solve a bunch of murders while keeping others in the dark to her involvement. Not with this novel; it's full of rich mythology and paranormal characters. And I loved it! I enjoyed Kaylee's perspective and her narrative. She's a typical high school girl with typical high school actions. All of her actions and emotions felt real and I enjoyed hearing the story from her perspective, especially when it involved Nash. I was taken aback by how much I enjoyed their relationship; I usually enjoy relationships that take time to build, but I was rooting for Nash and Kaylee to hook up from page 1 and I loved every interaction they had throughout the novel. Lastly the plot was enticing. I wanted to know more about each character that popped up and I was dying to know who was behind the mystery deaths. The novel kept my full attention and I was surprised by how short it was (another hundred pages please Rachel!) but I am ecstatic to read the rest of this series and learn more about the new creatures that are sure to pop up in Rachel's world!

MY SOUL TO TAKE, by Rachel Vincent, was the perfect beginning for what looks like an amazing series. My expectations for a "soul screamer" were nothing like what was portrayed, and I was thrilled to experience it along with Kaylee. And the history behind her gift was facinating to read. Vincent dropped tidbits of information about Kaylee's talent very slowly as the book progressed which kept me engaged. The story between Kaylee and Nash was very sweet. I was a bit skeptical at first because I did not want Kaylee to get hurt, but an unexpected turn of events made me smile with satisfaction. I also was intrigued by Tod and his abilities along with his connection to Nash. I think he is the perfect balance for Kaylee and Nash's soul-saving team.I really loved getting to experience the unfamiliar territory of Kaylee's keening abilities right along with her. Vincent really did a fantastic job creating this amazing world of bean sidhes and the dangers that come with the responsibility.
