OMG luv this book it was great, love how Lucas and Bianca luv stayed strong after everything they went through. Thou have to say it's the second book I read that had me in tears. It was so sad how Lucas beg for Bianca to drink his blood in order to save her. I wish they had a better ending for there relationship after all they been through would of been nice for them to been the same kind. Then again that would end the book fast can't wait to read the last book see what happens to them and the who crew..

Hourglass is book 3 in the Evernight series. This was a very exciting, action packed installment. It takes place right after Stargazer left off. Lucas and Bianca have taken off with the vampire hunters Black Cross after their attack on Evernight academy.

It has been awhile since I read Stargazer, but it was easy to pick the story back up. Bianca and Lucas get to explore their relationship more, now that they are on the run together. And Bianca learns to be a vampire hunter while trying to keep her secret.

This is probably my favorite book in the series, there is a lot of action and jaw dropping moments in this book. We learn more about the secret Bianca's parents have been keeping from her. The story lines are well balanced, and we get to see some old familiar faces like Balthazar, Vic and Ranulf. And we also meet a new wraith character named Maxie.

I was a little reminded of the BBC series Being Human while reading this book, all we need is for the werewolves to be introduced to the series.

The parts that dragged on a little too long for me were the Black Cross training scenes. Otherwise, great pace and the book was a quick exciting read. I'm looking forward to seeing where this series is going next!

Picking up Hourglass and jumping into the story was like wrapping myself in a cozy blanket - familiar and relaxing. I first started this series when I bought the second book, Stargazer, on a whim at the local library (it was only $1 - I wasn't passing it up). I immediately checked out the first book, Evernight, and flew through it. I've been hooked ever since.Hourglass is my favorite book in this series so far. While I loved the first two installments, Hourglass surpasses them easily. Claudia Gray definitely showed her talent in this book. The characters - both main and minor - are more developed and we see more interaction between them. They are faced with far more difficulties and the choices they make are not always what you would expect. Those choices and situations kept me turning pages into the early morning hours.Along with a better feel for the characters, this book was a lot easier to become emotionally attached to. There is a plethora of emotionally-charged moments in Hourglass. From elation to rage to confusion to grief, pretty much every emotion is touched on in this book. And it all feels so incredibly real, making it impossible not to connect with the characters.Gray's series seems to get better with each book with the plot taking unexpected twists and the characters ending up in unexpected situations. Her style is simple, but it catches your attention and keeps you hooked, making for a pleasant, swift read. Hourglass earned four out of five stars for me. While I love the series, it does not escape me that it is incredibly similar - in some ways - to Vampire Academy. Because the two series are so similar, it is hard not to make comparisons. All in all, Hourglass was a fantastic book and a great contribution to the series. I cannot wait to get the next book and find out what happens to Bianca, Lucas, Balthazar, and everyone else I've grown so fond of.

This book is the third in the series of the evernight academy novels. It was decent but moved a little slow for my taste until the last quarter of the book. I still like the second book the best but obviously can't wait to find out what happens with Lucas and Bianca in the fourth book. I can't wait to find out how the wraiths and vampires are going to come together in it.

I loved Hourglass. There were so many fabulous twists and turns, sadness and happiness and I wanted more and more. I am very thankful that the fourth book will be available to me very shortly because I am just itching to see what happens. As an aside, I think Vic is an awesome character. When I think of him I see "fabio" from the last season of Survivor in my head :)

Wow! This book was so good. I was enthralled from the time I picked up this book until I was finished. Claudia Gray is such an amazing writer. I really had no idea where she was going to go with this book and I was really caught by surprise. What I really love about the Evernight series is they are they extremely intese throughout and Claudia Gray doesn’t take the happily ever after approach that you would expect. There was something mind-blowing that happens in the book that I saw coming but I was in denial (I was really hoping it was going to be prevented). This book ends with the type of cliffhanger I am getting from a lot of books lately but it didn’t spoil the book for me. I would have to say Evernight is definitely one of my favorite series.

Another edge of your seat, non stop thrill ride from Claudia Gray with an ending that will leave you begging for more, plus a little frustrated that we have to wait until March next year until Afterlife.Hourglass picks up soon after Stargazer, with Bianca, Lucas and Raquel hiding out (whilst also training to kick some vampire butt) with Black Cross. Unfortunately Lucas and Bianca’s plans of leaving Black Cross are put on hold as the cell is in lock down so they must wait it out until an opportunity arises for them to leave without being caught. However events conspire that place both Lucas and Bianca in danger and they must leave Black Cross sooner than they bargained for. Though once they finally do get away more problems ensue.Once again I found the start to be a bit slow going, but then all of a sudden the pace picked up and I couldn’t put it down. I attribute this non-putdownableness (I know it’s not an actual word) to when Balthazar was captured, from that moment I was glued to each page, what can I say I have a bit of a soft spot for Balthazar.Hourglass definitely gave us more Bianca and Lucas time (it’s basically Bianca and Lucas together throughout most of it) which I appreciated because we didn’t get too much in Stargazer. We really get a sense of how much Lucas is willing to sacrifice to be with Bianca and how much he cares for her, which is very adorable. Lucas also manages put his pride and feelings towards Balthazar aside when he decides to help him escape from Black Cross, something which he didn’t have to do but he did. Hourglass is also steamier than the previous two books.I felt more for Bianca in this book, she was really struggling with leaving her family and her blood craving which was especially difficult living with a bunch of vampire hunters who would kill her if they discovered her secret. Bianca’s declining health issue was a bit of a mystery for me throughout the book, I kept on wondering what was wrong and what was going to happen because she wasn’t getting any better. Towards the end of the book we are given an answer to this conundrum, once I read this I was like ‘oh this makes sense to me now, clever’.I also have to mention Raquel who settled in very well at Black Cross. I was not impressed with her actions at all, I don’t want to give it away but I’m just going to say ‘Oh Raquel why oh why, I’m very disappointed in you *wags finger*’, this will make perfect sense once you have read the book. Vic and Ranulf also make an appearance in the book which is always fun, I love them both, they always manage to lighten the mood. As I mentioned before Balthazar is in Hourglass too but it’s really only a minor appearance but it’s still Balthazar so I’ll take anything I can get.Now I can get onto the ending, words cannot justify how ‘crap me did that just happen’ and frustrating it was. Don’t get me wrong I loved the ending but it’s so cruel we have to wait until 2011 until the next book when we were left hanging like we were. I’ll just say both Bianca and Lucas are in a pretty big pickle and I have no idea how they are going to overcome this pickle.Random thought: I was thinking about the title of the book before and it dawned on me that it’s really clever, throughout the book Bianca’s time was running out, just like an hourglass, she had to make a choice because if she didn’t the choice would be made for her once the time ran out.

On the run from Evernight and her parents, Bianca is precariously ensconced with Black Cross—as she says, the only vampire vampire hunter. She and Lucas know they need to get away from both sides, but lack the ability and resources to do so. (Fortunately they have rich friends, eventually, but it takes a while to reach them.) Bianca makes some decisions so stupid that only a teenager in Romeo-and-Juliet love could make them—totally plausible given her age and background, and yet I wanted to reach out and shake her; I imagine that the true demographic for the book didn’t have the same reaction. There’s a hilarious character moment straight out of The Lost Boys in the back half, some serious plot development, and overall a good arc. Bianca’s role in the struggle between vampires and wraiths becomes much more clear, and future volumes are obviously required.

I have to say, I was a bit disappointed in this book. Don't get me wrong, the series is amazing, but I missed a lot of the true, heart-wrenching/star-crossed-lovers romance that was such a central part of the other books. Bianca and Lucas were finally together, and they had their fair share of trials, but some real love, not physical love, was lacking. I have to say, I really loved the parts with Balthazar in them. I just love Balthazar's character; I think Claudia Gray did a nice job with his story and his connection to everything, even though he is technically a minor character. But the book was definitely an enjoyable read; not as great as its predecessors, but still good.

Bianca and Lucas are finally together but hiding out from the Evernight vampires and trying to hide Bianca's true identity from the Black Cross zealots. With the help of old friends, they strike out on their own, but Bianca can not escape her true nature. This series just gets better and better. I love the characters and the action. And let's not forget the romance. This is a great series that should appeal to boys and girls.

Hourglass is the third book in a four book series called Evernight, with the fourth due out next year. I was very excited about it's release but to be honest I was slightly disappointed for the first quarter of the novel. The first two books in this series were ripe with mystery and intensity and I was in love with the character dynamics and I felt like the first half of this book was one long drawn out chapter with little to no new development. Additionally there wasn't much going on between the two protagonists Bianca and Lucas during the first half of the book to really engage me in their story. With that said by the second half of the novel I couldn't put Hourglass down! Things began to quickly steam up between Bianca and Lucas in a way that isn't usually written in a young adult novel. Although unexpected what I really appreciated was how the author portrayed intimacy in a realistic, progressive, and innocent way that I wish was more often true of young adult relationships. The reality is teenagers in our society are intimate at a very young age and we do not have enough positive role models to emulate how intimacy should be between two consenting and in-love "adults."I was disappointed not to have a few of my favorite characters highlighted a bit more in this novel so I am eagerly awaiting the next novel in this series to showcase them more. The final few chapters was where things really got interesting and I found myself frantically turning the pages with the patience of a six year old at Disney. I know a book is good when after I read the final sentence and realize there is no more to read I feel compelled to throw the book across the room.I gave this book a 3.5/5 because although a good read the book in its entirety didn't have me engaged and I felt that not enough went on outside of the relationship between Bianca and Lucas (aside from something I won't mention due to spoilers but that is quite a crazy twist) . This series as a whole is fantastic and I have high hopes that when the final book Afterlife is released in March 2011 I will have forgotten about anything I disliked in this book.

Wow! I don't know any other way to put it than to say this book was amazing! Hourglass is definitely the best in the series so far. In Hourglass, we follow Bianca and Lucas as they try to escape the Black Cross vampire hunters before Bianca's true nature is revealed. This book had me hooked from beginning to end. It was well paced and so exciting to read. There were so many plot twists I did not see coming. I won't put any spoilers but let me just tell you the ending will leave your head spinning. This is a must read for any paranormal romance fan. I'm now eagerly awaiting Afterlife!

Holy crap! This is one of those books that I want to go on and on about the awesomeness of it, but I can't because I would be giving away the plot, which would be a terrible thing to do. I could not believe the last quarter of the book. Going in, already heard there was going to be a shocking twist, but I was still blown away by it. It starts out with Bianca in Black Cross receiving her vampire hunter training. I liked seeing more of the inner workings of Black Cross. It helped you understand a little more about Lucas. How hard it would be to grow up in that environment. The whole time I kept wondering if Black Cross would find out about Bianca, and what they would do to her when they found out. I had to sympathize for Bianca. It would not be easy pretending to want to hunt and kill your own kind. She is kind of stuck in between two worlds. She sees the good bad on both sides. We get to see alot of Lucas and Bianca together this time, which was nice. This book does get steamier, but Gray does it in a tasteful way. We get to see Balthazar some, but not as nearly enough as I would have wanted. But that is just me. He would be in every scene if I had it my way. And he would never have a shirt on. I just love the friendship between Vic and Ranulf. Those two just add some light and funniness to it all. Vic once again proves how much smarter he is than you would think. It was nice to see Raquel happy for a change, but I was disappointed that she didn't stay more loyal to Bianca. The only part that seemed slow to me was the time That Bianca and Lucas were off on their own. But I could just feel that something big was happening, so that kept the pages moving along for me. And boy was I right. I was completely taken by surprise. I cried at one point. And I don't just mean a few tears, I mean I was crying to the point that I had to put the book down to collect myself before I could go on. Gray's powerful writing really lets you feel the emotions. I honestly don't know how I am going to wait until the next book in the series comes out. I am dying to see how things play out.All in all, Hourglass is filled with phenomenal writing, fantastic characters, and twist and turns you would never expect. You have to read this series!

Talk about a cliffhanger! This book definitely had it's ups and downs, but the end guaranteed that I'll be waiting for the next in the series. Hourglass picks up right where Stargazer left off, with Bianca agreeing to become part of the hated (by me, anyway) Black Cross group. I enjoyed how Gray made Black Cross very clearly into 'bad guys' in this installment, where before there had been a kind of moral ambiguity. The time Bianca and Lucas spend within this group had it's highlights, but overall I kept waiting...and waiting...for them to finally leave. I expected the second half to pick up considerably, and it did, but parts that were obviously meant to be tense and action packed sometimes fell flat. The feeling of being on the edge of the seat that was present in the first two books just wasn't there for me this time. Also, none of this book is set within Evernight Academy, and I think it really suffers for that. The great cast of supporting characters is limited. Ranulf was the absolute highlight, but wasn't used to his full potential. Luckily, there were several really beautiful passages that deepened the relationship between Bianca and Lucas, and those saved the book for me. I felt like they really progressed together, even if individual characterization was lacking a bit. Overall, this is my least favorite of the series, but it won't keep me from reading the next!

The first half of this book was super boring and I almost gave it up without finishing it. The 2nd half got exciting and had a crazy ending that I didn't expect. I like when the author surprises you.But I feel very little for Lucas and Bianca. There was virtually no character development and I felt like the author kept reiterating the same things over and over, which got annoying and just isn't good writing.I had thought this would be the last book in the series, but apparently not. I'm not sure if I'll read the next one.

I was this [ ] close on deciding not to read the next book of Evernight Series. Ms. Gray finished book two with Bianca saying yes to be part of Black Cross. That pissed me to no end. Seriously! how can you become a part of a group that haunts down your race? I get it, love is a powerful thing that makes you do all the irrational things in the world but come on! So after that, I'm like, I'm done with you Bianca! be that way. But then after blowing off steam I remembered how Ms. Gray mislead me into thinking that Lucas was the vampire on the first book and then gasped when Bianca has bitten Lucas. That was the most awesome thing ever. After reading the first chapter of Hourglass, I'm all gunning for Bianca again. So they do plan to escape... I like that but it took forever for them to do it. I wasn't a happy camper and then Balthazar got caught, that's when it got really interesting... I've always been team Balthazar since the start of this series so when Lucas decided to set aside his high horse and help him I was really grateful. I could kill Rachel for ratting them out, but Dana make up for it and nothing really happened to our star crossed lovers but still that kind of betrayal and small mindedness placed Rachel as the "must-die-soon" character on my list. This wouldn't be an Evernight book without the thrill, the shocker(s) and a disappointment. And I am very very happy that all three elements were there. The Thrill- That intense scene when they finally escaped Black Cross HQ. Including that memorable night for Lucas and Bianca. The Shocker -That "huge" Bianca scene. Remember when Bianca's mother told her that, she has now turned the hourglass of her future. She wasn't kidding. I am not sure if I can resign to what Bianca has become. I cannot help but wonder if she will stay that way forever or is there some type of a loop hole / clause on that wraith - vampire agreement that she can work into bailing herself out.The Disappointment - Bianca's fate for sure. I was pissed when it happened. WHY?! Ms Gray.I love it that I can never predict on what will happen on every Evernight book. So I stop speculating after finishing each chapter up until I read the ending. It kills me that it ended like that. I am impressed on what happened. Have you read the Morganville Vampire books? Then you know how Rachel Caine always end each book with a killer cliff hanger as an ending, well... this was almost as good as that.I know I'm talking in riddles I know but it will kill the excitement for those who hasn't not read it if I summarize the whole thing. So you must trust me and grab a copy after this review.

Hourglass was an amazing, non-stop rollercoaster ride and everything I was wanting and everything I was not wanting………Hourglass begins right where Stargazer left off. Bianca and Lucas have fled Evernight Academy and have taken shelter with Black Cross (vampire hunters) in order to survive the wraith and vampire attacks. Things aren’t so simple for Bianca though- they are in a closed off deserted area and in complete lockdown. No one knows who she is or what she needs in order to survive. As the days pass by so does Bianca’s strength and ability to stay focused.......and this is all I can write about without ruining the story for future readers......I think this is the best book out of series thus far. Evernight was a fantastic introduction and I loved Stargazer because of Balthazar and if anyone has read the interviews around the blogosphere this week Gray is writing an entire book dedicated to Balthazar…(Oh wow-here’s me doing the happy dance) I think each book has gotten better, and Grays writing has become almost genius. To say I read this like lightening is putting it mildly- I soaked up the world of Hourglass in one sitting and hated -hated- that it had to end...how do we wait for Afterlife? I guess one book at a time............

One of the most addicting and enthralling series out there! Claudia Gray's Evernight Series gets better with each book. I didn't think it could, but Gray proved me wrong once again. With her beautiful writing, excellent plot twists and amazing well developed characters, you won't be able to resist placing this somewhere special in your heart. If you asked me what I thought would happen after Evernight, well the answer I would have given then is probably 100% wrong. For I so did not see, what happened in Hourglass coming. But that's one of the great things about this author, she keeps you guessing and doesn't give you a boring storyline. All the plot twists, whether it's in this book or the others, are superbly well written and you so don't see them coming. Your mouth will drop by the end of Hourglass, leaving you utterly speechless. I promise you that, for I was very surprised.I absolutely love, love, love, love, love, love, love this book!!I enjoyed this book, it was fantastic. It outdid it's two predecessors, and in the end has left me counting down the days until the next book comes out. I love all the characters, even the evil ones. And if Lucas were a real person, I'd want to date him. But I'd also would like to date Balthazar, if he were alive to. The only problem then, would be Bianca (because she'd be alive to). There's not much more to say about this series. It's brilliantly amazing, and if you haven't read them yet. Then I seriously think you should drop everything and start. For you won't be disappointed.I look forward to seeing more of Claudia Gray's works, for she is truly a admirable author. The only problem I saw in Hourglass, was Raquel's character wasn't the same. And how she changed so quickly and how she acted, was really unbelievable.I don't want to give any spoilers away, but all I have left to say is: GO. READ. THIS.BOOK.NOW.YOU.WON'T.BE.DISAPPOINTED!! :)

The third instalment to the addictive Evernight series, Hourglass did not disappoint. Full of romance, action and horror, hourglass is sure to entertain anyone. The story starts off where stargazer (the second Evernight novel) left off. Bianca Oliver has just become a member of the black cross, an organization of vampire hunters, as a way to get away from Evernight academy but there is one problem. Bianca is a vampire. Bianca’s boyfriend Lucas Ross, who has been a member of black cross his whole life, helps her get enough blood to survive whilst they were hiding out at black cross by stealing bags of blood from hospitals and sometimes sacrificing himself which turns Lucas into a part vampire. All seems to be going well until Bianca’s friend, Raquel who joined black cross with Bianca, finds her drinking blood from a bag that Lucas stole for her from the blood bank. Raquel tells the heads of black cross about Bianca’s true identity which puts Bianca and Lucas on the run again. Bianca has always believed that her love for Lucas can survive anything but can it survive what’s to come?

The plot in this series is driving me up the wall a bit. The books never take the direction I want them to. I find the world really interesting, but never the parts that are focused on. The characters are growing more annoying as well. This series has such great potential, but doesn't deliver.

This is the third book in the Evernight series by Claudia Gray. Last I heard this is planned to be a 4 book series with the fourth book "Afterlife" being released in December of 2010. I got this book as an uncorrected proof, through the Amazon Vine program. This was the best book in the series so far.Bianca and Lucas are on the run with the Black Cross Brotherhood. They want to take off on their own but have no means to do so. Bianca is continuing to struggle to hide her living vampire status from the Black Cross Group, she is also struggling with continued bouts of unexplained weakness and illness. Then the Black Cross is attacked by vampires and one of them (being Balthazar) is taken in for questioning. Will Bianca be able to hide what she is? What about the wraiths, is Bianca safe from them or will she finally fine out what they mean when they say that "She is theirs"? Will Bianca and Lucas be able to rescue Balthazar while keeping their true loyalties hidden? Lots of questions and this book give you lots of answers to those questions. This was a great addition to this series. It was interesting to see Bianca and Lucas on the run together. This book had more action than the previous books, but I still wouldn't call it action-packed. Some of the book is dedicated to Bianca an Lucus struggling to hide and just make a living. I was a little frustrated with Bianca's helplessness in many of the situations, but it was understandable given how she was raised. It was nice to see Bianca get some training in fighting and hunting while she was with the Black Cross. Bianca becomes a more admirable character in this book, showing inner strength in certain instances where in the previous books she would have just whined. There is a lot I can't say about this story without giving away spoilers. So, let's just say that you learn a lot more about Bianca and how she was born, you also learn a lot more about how the wraiths interact with her. As with the last two books Gray's writing style is nothing spectacular, but it is very readable and engaging. I think the writing is much better than The House of Night series. The plot pulls you through the book making it a rapid read, there are a couple of huge surprises. This book has much better pacing than the first two books; the action is spread out throughout the story and there aren't as many pages given to Bianca whining or other teenage angsting. Although, like the previous two books, most of the excitement and surprises happen in the last third of the book. The only complaint I have is that the ending completely leaves you hanging. So, expect to be extremely frustrated at the end of this book. In fact if you can, I would wait to read this one until book 4 comes out...but given the cliffhanger of "Stargazer" (book 2) I know I was having trouble waiting for book 3...anyway just a suggestion. You definitely do need to read the two books previous to this one to make sense of anything that happens in this book.Overall this was the best book in the series so far. More action and more surprises than the first two books. Gray's writing style makes it all a pleasure to read. I can't wait to get my hands on "Afterlife"!

There are a lot of reasons to be thankful on Thanksgiving Day, but one of mine is that I had a chance to gobble up an advance copy of Hourglass, book 3 of the Evernight series. Although I find myself slightly tired of vampire stories, which, since Twilight seem to be the only stories out there, Hourglass has such a finely written plot that the vampire factor wasn’t overly significant. Unlike many third books in a series, Hourglass left me eager to read book four even though this book had it all; plot twists, nail biting suspense, action, betrayal, sacrifice, romance, violence and heartbreak. I found myself fighting a fierce urge to devour the text because I didn’t want the feast to end. If you’ve been reading the Evernight series, you’re DEFINITELY going to want to stand in line to get your hands on a copy 03/09/2010.
