About this ebook

From noted author Lori Copeland (more than 3 million books in print) comes a romantic new story of God’s faithfulness when hope seems lost.

The three wily and beautiful McDougal sisters can swindle a man faster than it takes to lasso a calf. But their luck is running out, and they’re about to be hauled off to jail. When the wagon carrying them falls under attack, each sister is picked up by a different man. Unfortunately for Abigail, she’s grabbed by a twit of a shoe salesman, Mr. Hershall Digman. She steals his horse and rides off to the nearest town, not giving him another thought…until she discovers those secret papers in his saddlebags. Could Mr. Digman be a Confederate spy?

As if to prove it, the man who comes storming after her is no shoe salesman, but a handsome captain who wants his papers back…at any cost. And Abigail wants a ride back home. Together they embark on his mission, determined not to trust each other…or the God who won’t seem to let them go.

Abigail McDougal and her sisters, Amelia and Anne-Marie, were raised by the sisters at the Mission San Miguel after their parents passed away. Mischief was never far behind them and, when they grew to be young ladies, their mischief turned to more serious offenses--scamming the wealthy to support the Mission. Now their crimes have caught up with them. On the way to prison in a jail wagon they are attacked by the Comanche but, just when they think it's the end, they are rescued by three men. In order to save their live they separate and Abigail finds herself with the insufferable Hershall Digman, shoe salesman extraordinaire. Hershall's bumbling, idiotic ways infuriate Abigail and tempers flare. But is Hershall really what he seems or is he in disguise just like Abigail in her Nun's Habit? When Abigail steals his horse so she can return to Mercy Flats to meet her sisters she discovers confidential papers to be delivered to the confederate army. To her surprise Hershall Digman isn't as idiotics as she thought. He's an undercover spy for the confederate army!Hershall Digman, aka Barrett Drake, has never met a more infuriating woman. Now she has the papers he is supposed to deliver to General Smith in order to stop and attack. The only solution-- take Abigail with him to deliver the message and then return her to Mercy Flats to meet her sisters. As they set out to complete their separate missions together, what was once an act of one tolerating the other has now bloomed into a mutual admiration and maybe... love. Abigail has already given her heart to Barrett but the memory of his late wife still haunts him. Will he finally realize he can't live without her?Lori Copeland has such a way of spinning a story. Sisters of Mercy Flats drew me in from the very first paragraph and I eagerly awaited the turn of every page. I loved the whole concept of Abigail and her sisters using disguises to scam money from unsuspecting wealthy patrons and as nuns no less. Who doesn't trust a nun? The best part, for me, was the constant tension and bickering between Abigail and Barrett. I laughed out loud at "Hershall's" actions as a bumbling shoe salesman and Abigail's reaction. They wanted to throttle each other and it made for some really great scenes. The story didn't get any less captivating once the bickering stopped and the romance started, maybe more so. It left me smiling and feeling satisfied and I am eager to read the next two books in this series. If you love Historical romance with humor sprinkled in, you'll love this book. I highly recommend it!Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. I can’t wait to join these sisters in Mercy Flats again soon as possible! I was hooked from the first two pages when the Sisters hoodwinked a cattle rancher into buying steer that weren’t actually theirs to sell, and did it while masquerading as nuns! Classic! After being separated from her sisters during the attack on their wagon, Abigail must tolerate her rescuer until she either convinces him to help her get back to Mercy Flats or steals his horse to attempt it alone. Turns out, “tolerating” him may not be such a chore after all!Mr. Digman was really a God-fearing confederate spy that must get a message to one of the companies who may be in trouble and Abigail was now along for the ride. Their relationships starts off a little rocky but they soon find a match in each other, even though they fight it until the very end. This was a sweet story with lots of laughs at Abigail’s antics, and cheers for everything they make it through. I really enjoyed the storyline and look forward to hearing how the other two sisters fared with their respective rescuers!Rating: 4HEAT Rating: SweetReviewed By: Daysie W.Review Courtesy of: My Book Addictions and More

Sisters of Mercy Flats by Lori Copeland was a great read and provided me with several good laughs and the author’s descriptions of all the action taking place provided lots of good, clean entertainment. The three beautiful McDougal sisters, Anne-Marie, Amelia, and Abigail, can unscrupulously separate a man from his money as quick as a wink and then have no regrets about their actions. Their justification is that they give half the money to the mission where they grew up as orphans. The sisters, dressed as nuns, pull one too many swindles and find themselves in an enclosed wagon on the way to jail. A band of Indians attack the wagon and in the ruckus, the wagon plunges down a ravine. Three men on horseback come from three different directions at the sound of the attack and when they climb to the bottom of the ravine they are surprised to see three nuns in the jail wagon. At the sound of more Indian warriors approaching, Anne-Marie is grabbed by a Crow Indian, Amelia is rescued by a man named Morgan Hale and poor Abigail is left at the mercy of Mr. Hershall Digman, an awkward and seemingly incompetent shoe salesman who seems to spend most of his time trying to keep his bowler hat from blowing away. When they stop for the night, Abigail steals his horse and rides to the nearest town where she finds secret papers in Digman’s saddlebags and her first thought is that he is a Confederate spy. The man who comes riding after Abigail is definitely not a clumsy shoe salesman but a handsome Army Captain and he will do just about anything to get his papers back. Abigail just wants a ride home but she has to team up with the captain so that he can carry out his mission. They have absolutely no trust in each other and neither trusts God any longer, feeling that He has abandoned them.Since historical western romance is one of my favorite genre of book, I thoroughly enjoyed every word of this book. There was quite a bit of suspense in the story and at many times the action going on was frightening. The romance in the story was partly one-sided and was on again off again but was a most enjoyable addition to the story. The dialogue, plot, characters, and scenes were so well developed that I was living the story right along with Abigail. I found the story to be most inspiring for even when everything seemed lost for Abigail and the captain, God’s faithfulness was ever present.I would recommend this book to everyone who likes historical fiction that takes place in the west and has the added interest of it being set during the Civil War and also contains a good romance story as well. The book was not written as a comedy but I had some great laughs at the antics of the three sisters and the bumbling shoe salesman. I hope that the author writes two or at least one more book to let us know what happened to the other two sisters, Anne-Marie and Amelia.I received this book free from Harvest House Publishers through Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
