The Feasts of Israel - Andrea C. Paterson

Praise for The Feasts of Israel:

"I was more than happy to read [Dr. Paterson’s] new work The Feasts of Israel full of religious holiday facts and the joy of family sharing. As the Chairman of the EOCPC (Evangelical Order Certified Pastoral Counsellors), of which Dr. Paterson is a ten-year member, I highly recommend this book, which gave me insight into these events that I wish I could have learned many years ago. Those in

ministry and those contemplating commenting on the question of

Israel should read this book."

Dr. Stephen Hambly

Chairman, Evangelical Order Certified Pastoral Counsellors

Executive Director, Canadian Christian Clinical Counsellors Association

"In The Feasts of Israel, Dr. Paterson is able to explain to the general reader the basic concepts of each of the biblical feasts. Using clear and understandable terminology, the author takes us through each of these feasts in a journey that is informational, inspirational, and exciting at the same time. Most importantly for the Christian reader is the way the book makes the connection between the meaning of each of the Old Testament feasts with many of the celebrations that are part of the Christian tradition. The correlation, similarities, and fulfillment of Israel’s feasts in their counterpart Christian celebrations comes across throughout the pages of this work. The book is an excellent introductory tool for anyone interested in learning more about The Feasts of Israel and how they relate to the Christian liturgical year. It makes for very pleasant reading, explaining profound concepts without using difficult language. It definitely offers a new perspective on Israel’s feasts. I was blessed by reading it!"

Jorge Sedaca

National Director, Chosen People Ministries (Canada)

"Great book, well written, informative, Dr. Paterson did a great job captivating the interest of her readers and giving them greater insight into The Feasts of Israel and their relationship to the church."

Dr. Paul Duarte

I appreciated the way this book was written, it is easy to understand and follow… If you want to learn more about your Jewish heritage or about [Israel’s feasts] in general then this is a great place to start.

"Dr. Paterson unfolds before us the reason for our purpose, our pursuit, and of our potential, our power and praise through her book The Feasts of Israel. Come, pull up a chair to the table and celebrate the feast the Lord has prepared for you, even in the midst of your enemies.

The Feasts of Israel is a timely and refreshing reminder to every believer in Y’eshua of our core foundation, our living roots, our destined growth and reason to be and remain fruitful here in the earth so that all may see, experience and taste heaven through the redeemed and know first hand that ‘the Lord - He is good!’"

Pastor Michael C. Diotte, Ph.D.

Streams of Victory Church, Toronto, ON

"Even as a student Dr Paterson was careful about detail and clarity. Here, in The Feasts of Israel that care to detail, clarity is seen. By writing with clarity, remembering the reader may not know anything of these feasts, Dr. Paterson’s approach aligns basic truths of Judaism and Christianity in a way that is easy to grasp. I find her treatment of the Feasts is a clear overview upon which extended teaching could be built. It is my privilege to recommend both the writer and the book to those who desire a foundational understanding that collates the Feasts of Israel to Christianity."

Dr. William J. Hurst, DThs., PhD. DPC. DD.

President, Institute of Strategic Christian Leadership

"Every pastor and student of the Bible needs to read this book this year either as an introduction to or to reaquaint themselves with this important subject of feasts. Dr. Paterson’s work The Feasts of Israel is one of the most concise and endearing works on this subject."

Dedication

This book is lovingly dedicated to the memory of my husband and best friend, Ivan Paterson, who went to be with the Lord in August, 2001. His support, loving encouragement and sweet presence are greatly missed. Until we meet again …

I also wish to thank my mentors and friends for their guidance, direction and prayer support throughout this project. Foremost in my heart are Dr. Michael C. Diotte and Dr. Stephen Hambly, both of whom gave me constructive criticism. They are friends, as well as colleagues. I greatly appreciate them both.

I also thank Evan Braun and Jen Jandavs-Hedlin of Word Alive Press for their ongoing guidance and direction throughout this project. It has been a valuable ‘learning curve.’

Foreword

Times of joy are shared with family and friends. During these holidays, presents and cards are exchanged and special meals are enjoyed. Events such as birthdays and anniversaries are celebrated. In the same way, religious holidays commemorate important events, and Judaism has many events of this kind.

As a book of both facts and feelings, this book is filled with the warmth of the Sabbath, the solemnity of Yom Kippur, the wonder of Hanukkah, the joy of Purim, and the awe of Shavuot. The love the Jewish people have for their traditions and holidays is evident throughout.1

As the jewels in the crown of the Jewish year, each of these holidays marks a major historical event in their history—a miraculous happening, a valiant search from freedom, or a desperate struggle for survival. A particular season of the year and the natural cycle of time are celebrated. Historical holidays such as Purim, Pesach, and Shavuot are holidays of
