Marie Prevost Canadian Film Actress of Early Hollywood

About this ebook
Marie Prevost is in many ways an example of the tragedy wrought by the advent of sound motion picture production. The Ontario-born beauty was as big a star as any in silent cinema films from 1924-1928. Yet her weight and thick New England accent both presented problems when she spoke in sound movie roles. Prevost was talented enough to carry many of the films she starred in during the silent era. Dark haired and blue eyed, her vibrant personality had great appeal to movie audiences. By 1933 her star was definitely declining. My e-book looks at Marie Prevost's career via anecdotes, marriages, movie descriptions and reviews, and the depressing side, her alcoholism and death.

Of Anglo-French descent Marie Prevost became a leading lady of silent motion pictures. She was born May Bickford Dunn in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada on November 8, 1898. Marie was a dark haired and blue-eyed beauty. The future actress was sent to the United States for her education and attended a convent school there.
Marie Prevost began her film career at 18 at the old Mack Sennett (born Michael Sinnott, January 17, 1880-November 5, 1960) studios where she was used as an extra in a mob scene. Soon after this appearance Marie became a famous Sennett bathing beauty in 1917.

Prevost obtained a role in Secrets of a Beauty Parlor (1917). This followed her motion picture debut in Unto Those Who Sin (1916). She continued to appear at casting calls until she landed a role in Uncle Tom Without A Cabin in 1919.
In the early 1920s Marie graduated to making full-length silent features. By 1921 movie executives realized Marie’s talent and she appeared in four movies that year. She followed this up with six more
