About this ebook

A CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE

When Bonnie's Cousin goes to prison just for having the wrong friends, She goes faithfully to visit him. She notices the good looking guard there all the time, but feels it would be awkward to approach him.

Dean watches Bonnie every time she comes to the prison and finds himself falling for the frequent visitor with the speed of a freight train. When he hears her singing one day, there in the visiting room, he realizes he just has to get to know her. The question is, how? Then when she's viciously attacked by a violent prisoner, he realizes how much she means to him.

Can these two overcome their hesitance and find a way to be together?

A.R. is an animal lover who was born and raised in Bronx, NY and is the oldest daughter of two girls. She holds an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science and Information Technology, which was only briefly used. She’s a mother of two entertaining boys (as well as a large menagerie of pets, all of which she considers her babies.) She’s also a wife to a delightfully handsome, amazingly supportive and outrageously funny man-beast who wants nothing more than to see her dreams thrive. A.R. loves tattoos as well as anything dragon and fantasy related. In her free time, she enjoys playing with her babies, exercising, writing, listening to music, hiking, cooking, dancing and reading. She also loves a great adventure in and out of a book! She writes to free her mind of its constant wandering and clutter. She thrives on the fact she can share it with readers that have the same passion for a great escape from everyday life. She also loves to hear from her reader's and chat away, so feel free to reach out to her any time. https://www.facebook.com/ARVon2

Paula Gallucci, my Didi and one person who was always there for me when I needed a pure heart and family by my side.

And the lovely Leanore Elliott, thank you for your constant nudges your belief in me and my abilities and for putting up with me. I’d not have completed many projects without you.

    PROLOGUE

The worst things that happen to us in life can lead to the greatest things. One never really thinks about something like that until it happens to them or someone close to them. It’s similar to not realizing how much you really care about someone until they’re no longer around. A feeling like a missing piece or a feeling as if you’ve left something behind that you need, badly.

Yeah, it’s like a smack in the face. With the exception that the after pain is not on your cheek, neck or head. But your heart. A painful, constricting squeeze that at times, takes the breath right out of you and causes you to stagger. Effects your workflow, your train of thought, even your appetite and sleeping pattern.

Bonnie didn’t know what was going on until she literally got smacked in the face with a linoleum floor while visiting with her cousin. It was quite a painful, awakening experience for her. One thing she tells everyone to this day is how much she loves that ugly linoleum floor, because it introduced her to another very special person. A person who makes her—feel.

    CHAPTER ONE

    ***Bonnie***

Each time I come here at the exact time stated for all visitors, I still end up having to sit and wait for no less than a half an hour before I get to visit with Kurt, my cousin and best friend for life. He’s also the only family I have left—for going on a decade now and I love him with all of my heart.

He’s currently doing time for a crime he was not even present to commit! He’s as innocent as innocent can be! His longtime ‘friends’, James, David and Kevin just so happen to have come directly to him right after they robbed a convenience store, shot at the store keeper and made away with six hundred and thirty two dollars in cash, along with some beers, stogies and snacks. The fools!

    Then came the court trial.

    And Bam!

    Guilty!

Since they were all at our home right after the robbery, none of them stood up to prove my cousin wasn’t involved and Kurt had no one to stand alibi for him since before they all arrived, he was home…alone. There was nothing that could be done. No phone records, no neighborly neighbors able to speak up, nothing to prove he was not involved in his ‘friends’ stupidity.

I mean really. Why would he do such a thing when he has a job, a house and makes decent money? He’s also not one to do things just for the thrill of it or anything like that. He’s more of the quiet type. The type of guy who dreams of family and happiness. Staying healthy and living as long of a life as possible. He’s no thief or reckless fool. I wish I was there for him when he needed me.

Sadly, I was working two shifts for two different jobs that day. Even sadder, we have no close neighbors or any real friends in this area. We both like it that way, well at least we did, until this happened to him. If only, there was a witness to testify for his whereabouts, to vouch for him. He’d not be in this god forsaken hellhole.

His ‘buds’ dragged him down right along with them, stating he was waiting with Kevin in the car as look out since Kevin was the designated getaway driver. The stores camera showed the car, two males exiting and the driver sticking his head out the window, looking around a few times. But at no point, do you see a person in the front passenger seat or anywhere else in or near the vehicle for that matter.

Because all three of the actual guilty party stated they were with Kurt, no matter what Kurt or I say—they found him guilty. Since he’s never been arrested, always helps in the community and has a clean record, they have him only doing a short time compared to the other three. I hope each of them get what they deserve and then some for putting my cousin in such a position. He’s such a nice guy and always looks out for his friends. Even when they’re drunk and high, making fools of themselves. He’d always been the sober friend that made sure everyone got home safe and stayed out of trouble.

Like I said. A great guy!

Heaving out a heavy sigh, I get myself together, so I can go in the visiting area as soon as they line everyone up. Having the routine down pat, I didn’t carry anything in with me except for my identification and some cash, so I can add into Kurt’s account in the prison. Then he can write letters if he wants to
