Foreword
The Dachshund is a scavenger dog, of sorts. They will eat almost anything and everything, if you let them. Because of their short legs and their long bodies, it is not good for them to have extra weight on them. The extra weight makes it extremely difficult for them to move around, it can put them at a higher risk for spinal and nerve issues and is not good for their health at all, in general.
It is much easier to establish and maintain a healthy diet for a Dachshund while they are young than it is to try to get them to lose weight they have acquired later. Part of the nurturing responsibility of each dog owner is to ensure there is a balance in their dog’s physical need for food and not overindulging.
