I, Alan R. Secor, am an aspiring new writer. At sixty years of age, it is about time I publish my writings. I enjoy writing essays about nature, funny incidents, spiritual subjects, free verse poetry, and short stories. “A Kind and Wiser World,” a science fiction/fantasy/spiritual novella, will be my first story for publication. I have always been an avid reader, but now I am taking the art of writing seriously. In my writing, I hope to teach, inspire, and entertain people. I have completed a fictional adventure short story that I will publish soon. I attended Tidewater Community College, where I was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. I was unable to earn a degree for various reasons. However, I have done a lot of self-study. I was born in Chester, Pennsylvania, but lived in Philadelphia as a boy. I currently reside and work in Hampton Roads, Virginia. As of 2/23/2017, I am finishing another fiction, but based on a real life event. The title will be: "The Princess, Queen, and King."

    Chapter 1

I visited there in a dream. I entered a place of super-thick white fluffy clouds, and to my amazement I saw children playing. The children welcomed me, and they showed no fear for reasons beyond my understanding. They were normal children, but wiser and happier. They appeared to be from different cultures and nationalities.

I found myself in a circle talking with the older children. They explained where we were fluently in my own language, English. The children said, It's one of our special play areas. They said, The older children have the responsibility of watching and teaching the younger children while they are here. I watched the younger children nearby singing, dancing and playing. They mentioned they are safe because they have no enemies that can do them harm. They seemed to read my mind at that moment.

I told them I came from a planet called Earth, but they knew before I told them. I couldn't believe I was on a dense cloud speaking with wise children. It was beyond my limited knowledge of physics, logic and reasoning, but it seemed to be real.

They told me of another place where they play. In a moment, we seemed to be flying and one child looked at me and smiled. We landed on the ground somewhere similar to but more beautiful than Earth. I was joyful and astonished. The colors were vibrant, and many were unknown. The grass was soft, and many trees were taller than Redwoods. I wondered to myself, if the trees could talk, and one of the children looked at me with a knowing smile.

Most of the children went to play, but three of the older ones stayed with me to talk. I asked them where their parents and adults were.

They laughed and said, Yes, we wondered when you would ask us. They said, We have parents and adults here, as on Earth. One boy said, We are minutes away from our town in the distance. Since I was wondering about their parents, the older children gathered the younger ones and took me to them. They sensed my nervousness, laughed, and said, Our parents know of your presence, and they will welcome you. The children walked home rather than flew. They wanted me to see the area, and they knew I was an older man, so they walked at a slow pace. I was walking with a large group of children in another world and going to meet their parents and other adults. This experience is beyond my understanding.

This world was breathtaking. The sky was an unusual light blue. To the right I saw a waterfall with rainbow colors and in the distance, snow-capped mountains. The air smelled fresh – as if you were breathing country air for the first time and ahead of us was their town. What I could see so far was clean and had a similitude to a European country village. I wasn't afraid because I knew the adults and children were much wiser and kinder than the inhabitants of Earth. How could they accept me coming from the planet so stupid and cruel; but they did, and I was joyful. Why was I so fortunate to be in their world? I would soon find out.

As we entered their city, parents and grandparents were coming to greet us. I was a little nervous, but joyful. One grandparent and his spouse approached me with a smile that was indescribable. They, just like everyone else in this strange land knew many Earth languages and later I found out they were telepathic. But, in his wisdom he spoke fluently in my own Earth language, English, just as the children did.

The old grandfather welcomed me into their world and said, I and others would explain more about where I was at and why I could be here.

I was in awe and felt honored. I may note I didn't look at these beings as Gods or think I was in the astral world heaven, but it sure felt like I must be.

Welcomed into their cottage, his wife offered coffee because she knew I enjoyed it, and I was speechless. They laughed at me and smiled. They offered me food but explained they didn't need to eat and drink as much as Earth beings. But, they had many of the same foods and beverages, herbs, vegetables, and fruit.

After eating, I continued to sip on my coffee. The grandfather told me they knew I would visit their world, so they made a tiny, but beautiful log cabin for me. On Earth, I always wanted a log home but hadn't attained one yet. I was happy but in my normal pessimism I felt something bad must happen here, but nothing ever did. In the cabin, were wood carvings similar to what I carved on Earth, but more detailed. I found out later that one species of tree could talk, so they respected them by not cutting them. These beings prized nature. Here I was in a strange and unique world; I was tired, excited and amazed, but I fell asleep in the log cabin they prepared for me.

The next morning I awoke not remembering dreaming. It was amazing. I was still here. They gave me clothes that fit and thought I would be pleased with, and I was. Was I in a heaven or an advanced world? Was this my imagination? Soon I would learn the answers.

On the cabin door, I heard a knock. One of the older boys I met the day before and his parents
