Into a distinguished advertising and marketing career, Hugh Salmon has squeezed a variety of other experiences, meeting new challenges and interesting people along the way.
After his career was affected by physical disability caused by a rugby injury, Hugh witnessed the suffering that disabled people are forced to endure. He realised that the understanding of human behaviour and the creative talent he had worked with in advertising could be better applied to improving society as a whole.
His challenging observations on life and human behaviour have featured in his respected blog as ‘A Different Hat’ on the marketing website Brand Republic and on Huffington Post. 'Ideas for Britain’ is a compilation of some of these blog posts from 2009-2014.
From the UK government’s ignorance of the most basic law of advertising to the simple belief that every child has a talent at something; from the cruel effects of the austerity policy to direct insights into the behaviour of David Cameron and Tony Blair; from the role of government in modern society to the social impact of social media; from vital observations on the economy, immigration and business to exciting new thinking for the NHS, ‘Ideas for Britain’ takes a respected adman’s innate understanding of human behaviour and challenges the political classes to seek more creative solutions to the core issues facing Britain today.

Hugh Salmon’s advertising career began at Ogilvy & Mather in London. At the age of 31, Ogilvy appointed him to manage O&M Thailand, an office of nearly 400 people. He has been recognised as ‘respected throughout the industry’ in Campaign magazine’s ‘A List of Who’s Who in Marketing and Advertising’.
