Waves of Light and Shadow - Aurelia Springs

She had saved the mermaid's life, and so it seemed the mermaid had saved hers. Although, when Meuxneux kissed Eisa, giving her the ability to breathe underwater, she probably hadn't realized just how soon Eisa would need it to survive. In fact, when Eisa thought back on it, it had probably been intended as a nice surprise and a useful gift for a pirate. Then their ship had been attacked, and now Eisa and her beautiful captain, Laika, were taking refuge in the city of Atlantis as it lay under siege.

They had come to save it, but all they were doing at the moment was to help delay its destruction. Laika, as the Shadow Captain, was a master of planning and attack, her domain was darkness and surprise. Defense was a new challenge for her, but one she seemed to relish. She was a woman who could cultivate a grudge, and every day Eisa could see an ever darker and more ominous storm growing behind her black eyes. It made Eisa tingle with excitement to her very core.

Eisa could spend hours looking into those eyes, she could spend hours looking at any part of Laika, and for their time in Atlantis Eisa had plenty of opportunity to do so. They had convinced the world of the surface dwellers that they were dead, which was perfect for Laika, so that they could emerge from the shadows and the afterlife to strike fear into the hearts of all those who opposed them, and Laika was taking the time to teach Eisa how best to obliterate them. Hours she spent watching Laika, fighting her, meditating with her, and making love to her. Eisa knew every bit of that body.

Eisa had survived the destruction of the ship and their collapse into the water with relatively little damage thanks to Eisa's planning and protective grip. Laika though now bore a ragged scar running from above her eyebrow and across her cheekbone from the destruction in the water, and while Eisa wished that her lover had never been put in the situation to receive it, Eisa couldn't help but find it incredibly dashing. It was a warrior's scar, and only served to make the Shadow Captain all the more imposing. She would kiss it sometimes as they lay together in their little cove they had been given to sleep in. They would float and turn with the currents, wrapped up in each other's arms and Eisa would feel herself overcome again with a love that burned deep inside of her and she would swallow it down, pressing her face into Laika's skin so that it couldn't spill from her lips.

What did a legend need with love? What would a pirate captain want it for? Eisa harbored no delusions that Laika kept her around for anything more than the camaraderie and the sex. So Eisa kept it tucked away, using it to keep herself warm, and never allowing it to threaten her place in the captain's life.

When they weren't locked away together they were part of one of the constant battle meetings. Eisa found herself sinking back behind Laika, trying to keep the attention off of herself. From her
