About this ebook

First in the Robot Wars series by Golden Lion, this book shows us humans living in a robot world in the not-to-distant-future. It highlights the prejudices of some humans toward the robots who are doing many of the jobs humans used to do. It demonstrates what happens when a robot goes rogue due to bad human companies trying to corner the market, putting humans at risk of destruction. This book explains how a good human organization takes on the bad robot company by creating robots that can fight for good. See how good human engineering comes up with variations of e-robots that challenge the bad, Lex 5 robots who seek to destroy humanity. Begin to understand the nature of robots vs. humans. Humans can worship their creator. Robots have a builder, and they don't know anything about worshiping. This is only the beginning, but it's action-packed and thought-provoking! These are issues we will have to deal with in the future as robots become more prevalent in our world. This is Book One of the Henry Parker Robot Wars Series.

To survive, mankind has taken to living inside immense domed cities that shield them from the radiation.  The cities are connected through vast underground tunnels. The cities provide an artificial sky and sunlight, as well as nighttime, but nothing is like the real thing. The governments run at the behest of a consortium of corporations called The Administrators, which is headed by computer memory provider, Xavier Tech, and the Chinese android manufacturer, UTAI. The FBI is no more; in its place is the Citizen`s Protection Agency.  Humanoid robots have become very advanced and are taking many jobs away from humans.  This has caused much prejudice against androids, Mecha is a slang term for an android.  Androids have become partially organic and contain cellular brains.  Riots are starting to break out in the cities, and gang violence is escalating at an alarming rate.  Minerals are mined on moon colonies and shipped to Earth.  Mankind faces an unknown future as they continue to live in a robot world.

    Chapter 1

It was a different world with the improvements in robotics.  Robots were being introduced into every day life in all kinds of jobs and services.  They were really good at doing menial tasks that humans didn't want to do.  Robots didn't care what they were assigned.  They didn't have ulterior motives, grand designs, they weren't out to take over the universe.  But, don't get me wrong, not everyone liked robots, androids, mechas or toasters, as they were variously and sometimes, derisively called.  Some doubted that they could blend into society without a lot of problems.  Take today, for instance.  There was a murder.  Everyone thought Dr. Sarton was murdered by an android assailant.  Why?  Because a powerful, non-civilian-type weapon was used to blast a hole clear through the doctor's chest.  That's why.  No normal murderer worth his salt would ever be caught dead using such a device.  He would be much more subtle, using a knife to slit his throat, or a hand-gun to shoot him in the back, or tie a plastic bag over his head and suffocate him.  The use of such a destructive, unorthodox weapon to take a human life was just unheard of and basically, inhuman.  And, most humans didn't have access to plasma weapons.  The military had been delving into such warfare, but no civilians could possibly have that technology.  Yes, everyone was right in thinking that this particular murder was the handiwork of a robot.

The killer, whom everyone assumed was an android, had escaped and fled the crime scene.  No one could even guess at the reasoning behind such an ignominious murder, the motive a robot might have for killing the doctor.  It didn't make sense.  Robots were programmed to help humans with dangerous and unsavory tasks.  They were coded to never harm another human.  If they attempted to harm one, they would be short-circuited from the inside out and cease to function.  Safeguards were never too carefully inserted into the programming of these physically strong, very capable, mechanical beings who were created by humans, but could very well outlast humans and their lifespans.  Some would ask, what if they get tired of serving mankind and make trouble?  Well, we'd just push a button and shut them down, then take them apart and use their various parts to create other robots who didn't have bad tendencies.  There was a master plan for all of this.

Meanwhile, in another part of the domed city, Detective Isaac Solomon and his partner, Richard Berenger, were being chased by an android.  The android killed a security guard.  The two detectives were in pursuit.Isaac's faith made him a man of steel, unrelenting in his pursuits, and furious in his revenge.  Isaac was a young man with black, curly hair, quick wit and a sense of humor formed from a life of adversity.  No one could ever accuse him of being shallow.

Isaac and Richard cornered the android in an alleyway and ordered it to shut down, but the android defied them.  It pulled a weapon, identical to the one that killed Dr. Sarton, and fired.  Isaac jumped out of the way of the blast. The robot missed Isaac but hit Richard directly in the chest.  The man fell like a cloth floating downward into a basket of clean clothes.

Isaac angrily responded by discharging his weapon at the android. He managed to severely damage it, forcing it to shut down.

Isaac ran to Richard and comforted him as best he could as he slipped away from this life, as humans do, frail as they are and subject to all kinds of nasty ways to die.  It was unthinkable that a functioning robot could actually perpetrate such a heinous crime!  What did this mean?  Were sunspots causing mass hysteria?  Were all robots going off their rockers and going after humans to kill them?  It seemed much like a plot out of a scary movie.  Richard was gone, and a mecha had killed him with a plasma weapon.  There wasn't anything that Isaac could do to bring back his trusty partner and best friend.  He knew his wife and kids well.  They had had a BBQ together just last Saturday.  It was all fun and laughter, a healthy man with a great family, and now he was gone.  Isaac was sad.  And angry!  He felt greatly dejected and grieved over the loss of his partner and friend.

The coroner came after awhile and examined the scene of the crime.  The Lex-5 android had blasted Richard with a plasma weapon, discharging a million-degree beam focused by an electromagnetic field tunnel.  The plasma had burned a hole completely through Richard's body.  It was a horrible sight.  An autopsy would be performed, but it wouldn't tell us any more than what we saw in person.  An android went wild and killed my partner, Richard.  How can I ever look upon another robot without anger and feeling the need for vengeance rise up in my throat?

The coroner working with the police arrived and took the detective's bloody body to the morgue. A white sheet was used to cover the body, and the two emergency personnel drove away.

Life went on.  Time passed.  Two weeks on administrative leave, and no real clues had surfaced.  Someone put that robot up to killing Richard.  I vowed to get to the bottom of it.  As a detective, my job was to solve murders like this.  I would do it in the name of my late partner, Richard, to honor him and his life as my partner.  Isaac returned to the police office.  He walked into the police building heading towards the third floor.

Isaac became troubled when he saw some beautiful young woman at his late partner`s desk--not even in the grave two weeks, and already some skirt was taking over his partner's desk!  He was confused and upset.  A whole range of emotions rose up inside of him.  He sure wasn't over the loss of his partner in such brutal fashion and vowed to take revenge.  He angrily walked over to the woman and tapped on the desk.  He wanted to slam his fist down on the desk, but he thought better of it.

    Hey!

The woman stood up and introduced herself.

You must be Isaac Solomon. I`m r-Danielle Olivaw.  I have heard good things about you.

Isaac angrily retorted, What are you doing at Richard`s desk?  My partner's things are sacred--don't touch anything!  You can't just come in and change everything.  His memory is still bright in our minds!

Isaac`s boss walked over and gently asked, What seems to be the problem, Isaac? He placed a knowing hand on Isaac's shoulder.  Touching could get a boss in trouble, but it was also a tool to help others deal with their grief and know that they have the support of the department behind them while they recover.  He knew that Isaac had his own way of grieving.  In this line of work, you soon found out how each of those who worked under you reacted to grief and other trials that came with this difficult job.  Some took it in stride, some held it all inside,
