About this ebook

Plagued by memories of the fire that claimed her family when she was younger, Savannah suffers from insomnia and nightmares. Although she is seeking help, Savannah finds that the best therapy is when Sandman visits her at night and not only soothes her mind, but also her body.

He is the only man she dares allow in her bed for fear that her issues would scare off a mere mortal. However, what starts off as a chance encounter with Jed, a handsome stranger, becomes a repeated occurrence as Savannah continually runs into him at a local coffee house. As much as the idea of dating Jed is appealing to her, she won’t accept his advances.

Can nightly visits from her other-worldly suitor help Savannah to move on with her life and take a chance on love? Or, will she decide that Sleeping with the Sandman is safer and more satisfying?

Sleeping with the Sandman - Mia Fox

    1

The dream grew more vivid each night, so clear in fact that it was hard for Savannah to separate it from reality. She could even recognize her own bedroom. The window with the sheer curtain was pulled back slightly to reveal the night sky with its brilliant stars. And then, the breeze shifted, blowing the curtains violently and the familiar was no longer calming. The dream became a nightmare that she wanted to escape.

But right now, she was safe in her bed. Gazing out the window, not the one of her childhood, but from the present, looking toward the stars and counting each one hoping to relax...until he was here to help her.

Just breathe. Inhale beauty...exhale stress. She said the mantra her therapist had guided her through aloud. Sometimes, it helped to banish her memories of a terrifying past, but most of the time it was like putting a sponge on top of a leak. It was a temporary fix at best. Those were the times when she needed him most.

He was easy on the eyes with muscles that rippled below the surface of smooth skin that was warm to the touch. His brown hair always looked slightly mussed as if he had just woken as well, even though he indicated that he sacrificed his own sleep so that she could rest. He would tell her this with such kindness, his clear, blue eyes smiling at her and as she gazed back at him, she would see golden brownish flecks dancing around his right eye’s iris. It was only one of the many things that made him stand out to her.

The other most notable quality he possessed was the way in which he made her feel...in a word...safe. Maybe that’s why she had come to think of him as more than an instrument of relaxation. He used his gift to lull her to sleep, but she found herself wanting him during her waking hours as well.

When he appeared to her, she knew she could fully relax into slumber, but she no longer wanted to sleep while he was near. She had grown up believing that the man should take the initiative where affairs of the heart were concerned, but this was no ordinary man and the chances of him overstepping his boundaries were slim.

Savannah knew that he may be other worldly, but he was still a man and she was determined to find out how to tap into his instinctive nature. She would have to take matters into her own hands if he were ever to become her lover. It wasn’t like her to be so bold, but he was handsome and tender. This mysterious man known only to her as Sandman... She may not know where he came from, but what she did know was that he cared for her. More importantly, he gave her the security that other men couldn’t. How could she tell him that lately it just wasn’t enough?
