Earlier in this series Unplanned Interludes: Book One, unfolded the story of the success and intriguing events that occurred in Lisa’s life growing up in Dallas then joining John her high-school sweetheart as they journeyed through adolescence, Harvard degrees, and into top corporate roles in New York.

Her life is full of fun, excitement, romance, frustration, and sadness, yet contains so many exciting and changing events we would all love to experience. Under surprising circumstances, she lost her job, her marriage fell apart, and at John’s funeral his personal assistant shared with Lisa that she suspected she was pregnant with John’s child!

Shortly after, Lisa was approached to take up a senior role with a new corporation, and this opportunity has provided her with a fresh start to her professional life.

Chicago Bound

Lisa’s relocation from New York to Chicago to take up her new position with the communications agency was providing her with an entirely fresh start on life and promised some amazing opportunities for her career. For some time, she had been recognized as one of the top executives in the social media advertising industry. The offer of a top vice president role in a leading Chicago based agency was unexpected but an ideal platform for her to restructure her lifestyle and commitments. Rather than traveling directly to Chicago, she decided to detour and spend a few days visiting her parents in Dallas. She then discovered she was arriving just in time to join a reunion at her old college.

It had been just over a month since her high school sweetheart and husband, John, had died. Regrettably, some major commercial pressures and a bad judgment error by him when he erroneously shared some confidential information led to him losing his job and marriage. In turn, it had all become too much for John, and he had committed suicide. At his funeral, his personal assistant, Crystal, shared with Lisa that she suspected she was pregnant with John's child and agreed to undergo a DNA test. She recognized this test was as much for her benefit as Lisa’s and had arranged for a DNA sample to also be provided by the only other person who could be the alternative father. When the results came back and indicated John was not the match but the other unnamed person, Crystal accepted the result but would not name the person as she believed Lisa also knew him. The guesswork had played through Lisa's mind ever since, but as any result was now outside her personal concern and would have no effect on John’s estate, the outcome was just an item for speculation.

Dallas was originally home base for Lisa. Her parents operated a large restaurant and catering business and had always hoped Lisa would join them in the family business. However, that was not to be, but they looked forward to and appreciated the frequent visits she made back home. They hoped these visits would be increasing now since she was about to start a new job and that her major client was the promotion of the nearby Las Colinas district business group. This overall location was her backyard when she was growing up, and ever since the development of the Las Colinas area had started back in 1972, she knew every corner, every ideal location for after high school cuddles, and later the more sophisticated passion spots that had emerged. Those memories had come flooding back many times and created many smiles on her face. This visit back home was intended to allow her to spend time with her folks, but at short notice, she had also learned of the reunion and had signed up.

The Reunion

A break of ten plus years certainly provides sufficient time for your old friends to have a host of stories to tell.
