Chapter 1
KING FIT FOR A QUEEN
Long Island and the surrounding parts of New York State is home for girls who prefer the calm over the chaos of a hustling and bustling city. These twin girls are subtle personalities who live in the comfort of a less glamorous life but tremendously fantasize realities.
Lisa was one such girl who spent a chunk of her adulthood waiting for a king who would be the right fit for the queen her parents always told her she was, at least for them. She looked forward to spending her life with a king destined to treat her like a queen, just as her dad always did. A man who, according to her mother, Carmella (who was a stay home mom who felt like Lisa was more like her, which is why she took Lisa under her wing), would always say, When your king comes, he will make you the happiest.
Lisa’s family was the perfect example of a nuclear family with a happily married couple and two daughters, Lisa and Layla. Every passing day, Carmella would positively affirm to Lisa, May you cross paths with a man as gentle, courteous, and loving as your father.

Parents are often advised no two kids can ever be alike, so their expectations should not apply to every child. Children are bound to be different, as are Lisa and her sister, Layla. They grew up given the same upbringing and very much the same morals, ethics, values, and advice. Yet the girls were starkly different from each other. Lisa was a more grounded, family-bound, and affectionate person, while Layla was a more rebellious and detached person who would only seek her parents for materialistic support and never check in on their well-being. They were quite an odd pair of sisters.
Layla was always jealous of her twin sister. She never could understand why her parents treated her like the oldest. Even though she was born a minute ahead, she couldn’t quite grasp her parents giving her the responsibility to grow up fast and not be equal with her sister. Layla believed her parents didn’t love her the same, so she started to feel bittersweet toward her sister even more.
All Layla wanted was her parents’ attention. However, as the eldest daughter, her parents expected her to be able to handle her life well, especially since she made rash and immature) decisions to move out of the house at an early age. As soon as she stepped out of high school, Layla wanted out of the house to live her own life without her parents monitoring her at all times. On the other hand, Lisa always loved spending time with her parents around her. She had big dreams too, but most of her dreams revolved around a happy marriage.
Layla used to FaceTime Lisa every weekend and would belittle or snub Lisa by reminding her she was feeding off her parents’ money and that she
