About this ebook

This small manual will increase your understanding, interest and enjoyment of the world’s oldest Self-help books, Scriptures and sacred writings. Misinformation and misinterpretation have caused many people to disregard these writings as fables with no value. These are too often seen as presenting unattainable qualities, as being too demanding and without meaning to the lives we are forced to live in today’s society. There are also those who believe with ‘blind faith’ that everything presented in Scripture is fact, that the events actually happened in an ancient time when ‘miracles’ were possible. Both of these viewpoints are misguided. Mystics, who mostly composed these scriptures, were actually reporting their personal experiences of inner probes into their psyches. Whether accidental or sought these inner experiences have affected and inspired billions of people: some positively, some not. These men and women realized that certain characteristics of the subconscious mind would bring understanding and wisdom to the lives of all people. The subconscious mind has the capacity to greatly affect attitudes and behaviour. These early ‘scientists of wholeness’, operated with a time honoured principle and process that garners positive results. This same principle and process gives validity to the work of psychologists and psychiatrists. These mystic reporters were the pioneers of working on Self to improve relationships, self-esteem and to positively affect your immediate environment. The laboratory used by a mystic is his or her self. The tools used are the tenets of Holy Science, a ‘Knowledge’ which helps to bridle the constantly interrupting conscious mind. ‘Knowledge’ of Holy Science allows one to tune into the source of wisdom and happiness, the Infinite Intelligence, found within the subconscious mind.
The intention of Scripture is to show how to enhance the quality of life: to spark an interest and show the possibilities. Sacred writings with the most impact are the accounts of those who achieved acute clarity and wisdom by exploring the ‘inner world’ of their consciousness. These Holy Scientists discovered how to add meaning to their daily affairs. Most important they provided the ‘keys’ with which you too could achieve the same feelings and qualities. Spirituality is about what you gain, not about changing or giving up things. It is not about changing yourself to please another power, ideal or person. Enjoy every moment of life. ‘Milk’ the precious moments by opening yourself to the valuable lessons learned from mystical experiences. Use the tools offered for ‘inner exploration.’ When used with faith, this ‘Knowledge’ will have a wonderful and positive affect on your life.

The Gift Within - Keith Taylor

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

I wish to express a deep gratitude to all mystics, past and present, who have made the ‘inner journey’ and chose to report their experiences and discoveries.

Thank you David and Nancy, Marjorie, Diana and Steve for your support and kindness.

Special thanks to Sherida for her love and belief.

A heartfelt thanks to Prem Rawat for revealing techniques to aid in the ‘opening of Heart and ‘Eye’ and giving me the inspiration to continue the journey.

To all children, who seem to shine with guileless love and depict the essence of all spirituality.

    PREFACE

Most students of the mind agree humans have but one mind, and that the mind possesses two separate functional parts.

Numerous names have been employed to distinguish the two functions of the mind. Clearly, all names that are used designate the dual nature of the mind.

For purposes of this manual I choose to use the terms conscious and subconscious mind. Conscious is used because it suggests awareness, observation and experience. It denotes awareness of outward objects. Subconscious is chosen because ‘sub’ designates beneath or under the authority and control of another. These terms best explain the functions of the two spheres as I understand them. If you are comfortable with another set of terms please use it. Some expressive terms that have long been used to describe the mind’s dual nature are objective and subjective mind, conscious and unconscious mind, waking and sleeping mind, voluntary and involuntary mind, male and female mind and surely many others.

‘Synthetic’ does not always denote something artificial, counterfeit or not real. Synthetic can be of, or involve synthesis. The word synthesis comes from the Greek ‘syn’ (together), plus ‘tithenai’ (to place). Thus, synthesis also means combining parts or elements to form a whole. By combining or merging the subconscious mind with the conscious mind a whole or complete person is created. This synthesis can and eventually will bring visions of God to the worshipper.

    INTRODUCTION

What you are now beginning to read is a small manual, a guide which hopefully will increase your understanding, interest and enjoyment of the world’s oldest Self-help books, Scriptures and sacred writings.

SCRIPTURES: MYSTICAL REPORTS OF THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND

Sacred writings and Scriptures have presented mystical experiences since the beginning of humankind’s graphic and written communications. Before this, the mystical accounts of super-sensuous experiences were passed on through word of mouth by storytellers and teachers. Scriptures are certainly among the most printed books ever. The Holy Bible has been acclaimed as being the most printed and read book the world has known. It is definitely one of the most misunderstood and ill-quoted books of all time.

What motivated me to put into words the realizations, and conclusions presented here was a desire to clarify the intended purpose and meaning of Scriptures and sacred writings. An effort to help other seekers and worshippers better understand the writings which so many entrust to guide and direct their lives. Writings so often misunderstood, but relied upon by many. Most disregard Scriptures because of miraculous, unbelievable accounts depicted. Reporting misunderstood because the vocabulary and intentions of the writers are unknown.

What were the Saints, Prophets, Messiahs and other mystical visionaries trying to report and express?

The first thing we must realize is that Scriptures are usually the reported accounts of mystics. We cannot allow ourselves to doubt this, or to allow this fact to lessen the importance of their message. The certainty that most writers of sacred reports that constitute Scriptures were mystics should not place any aspersion on their merit or usefulness.

What is a mystic? A mystic is one professing to have had profound spiritual experiences. Were not the authors of the various Books of the Old Testament reporting their spiritual experiences? As you read the Old Testament (as well as other religious Scriptures) you will note many, many references to mystic visions and dreams. The books of Amos, Daniel, Enoch, Ezekiel, Isaiah, Samuel and Zechariah all attest to visions or dreams. Were not the originators of the Gospels, Acts, Epistles and Revelation of the New Testament giving testimony to profound spiritual experiences? Were not the Sutras and Tantras of Hindu and Buddhist sacred writings inspired by mystical experiences? Were not the Surahs of the Koran based on mystical reports from Mohammed? Did not the angel Gabriel ‘awake’ Mohammed and give him the basis of the Koran?

Most Scripture present ‘insight’ into the subconscious mind. Although, with careful reading, you may discover that some things seem to have been inserted and manipulated for the benefit of the organized church. These appear to be contrary to the guiding and teaching techniques attributed to Christ Jesus and enlightened Saints and Prophets. Were these errors due to ignorance of the ‘Twilight Language’, or inserted for malicious control?

To clarify this you must understand that it was, and still is, customary for mystics, the reporters and recorders of spiritual experience, to write in a symbolic double meaning language. This language of metaphors, parables and similes is necessary to present spiritual observations, which are beyond the senses. This tool of spiritual reporting is often referred to as ‘Twilight Language.’ ‘Twilight Language’ appeals to the needs, passions, situations and relationships all people understand.

The man and wife, children and parents, teacher and student, travelers, the farmer, the thief, the warrior, sex, life and death are just a
