Dewi is just your average young dragon until one day when he gets hit by a fallen rat. Not wanting to leave the at to perish, Dewi takes it upon himself to discover what happened to the poor rat. All of this leads him to a gloomy castle and some very strange happenings. Dewi will have to use everything he has to try and help save the world from this mess. This is a super cute story. Dewi is a smart dragon, and he's not afraid to find others to help him. He really just wants to help people stay safe and happy. Even people or rats that fall on him from above. Dewi uses this sense of justice to help guide his decisions. Of course, he probably should talk to his dad about more things. Along the way, Dewi manages to get a few jokes in with friends as well. There's fun and action in this book, and many young children will get caught up in the story of Dewi. Book provided for review.

Chapter One

Rat Rain

Ouch! Something hit Dewi’s snout, bounced off, and flew over the rocks in front of him. It landed on a clump of ferns that sprang like a trampoline.

What was that? Dewi rubbed his smarting snout, put down his knapsack, and peered at the small, dark lump in the ferns. Dare he hope—a chunk of meteor? Dewi’s spines tingled at the thought of being the first Welsh dragon to hold a smoldering piece of outer space in his claws—a red dragon with sizzle.

He trotted closer. The meteor was covered in fur and had a definite shape: four legs, a hairless tail, and whiskers. It couldn’t be. It was. A rat. It was raining rats. Yet the sky was as clean as a dog’s licked bowl. The rat, on the other hand, was totally grungy. His enormous front teeth bit into his lower lip as if he’d just tasted something really yucky. His body, unusually small for a rat, was as still as a pickle on a plate. Or was it?

Wow! He’s breathing. Dewi peered at the rat’s belly moving up and down.

Now what? He couldn’t leave the toothy bomber to die, could he? Well, he could, but if the rat recovered, he might learn something interesting.

Dewi peered into the ferns. They weren’t full of rats eager to help. He’d have to go somewhere else for that.

Scooping up his ratty bundle of mystery, Dewi flapped his scarlet wings and launched his stocky little body across the bald hills. He headed west toward the Welsh coast to find his old friend Llewellyn Cledwyn, or Billy Know-All as he was usually called.

Dewi flew over the river Nevern a couple of miles from the coast. As he landed on the riverbank he almost crashed into a wooly rear end that was jumping up, down, and sideways. It belonged to Billy Know-All. The goat was stuck on a bramble.
