Preface

The purpose of this book is to render encouragement and inspiration to married couples. So many couples are experiencing tough times and encountering difficult situations, yet don’t think to seek God for the solution. We need to remember the advice Proverbs 3:5, 6 renders: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not to thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths. To be successful in marriage, it is essential to incorporate God, not just at the beginning, but at all of the in-between stages as well.

The reason for marriage is not to view your partner as a project to take on and attempt to change. The purpose of marriage is to help one another become better together; to achieve something that individually, and independently, would be impossible. As you embark upon, or continue on the marriage road, it should lead you to:

Happy, Happy, Joy, JoyI absolutely loved Toneal Jackson's "Pleasing Your Partner: A Spiritual Guide to H.A.P.P.I.N.E.S.S." After reading it, I immediately asked my husband to read it. This is something I've never done, asking him to read something I've read. Later that night, we discussed it. It gave us an opportunity to discuss H.A.P.P.I.N.E.S.S. We got married knowing the statistics. Yes, I was a little afraid but I'm determined NOT to be a statistic of divorce. Lots of couples get married for all the wrong reasons and as soon as a difficulty or a tough time rears its ugly head, they are ready to throw the towel in and give up. Jackson's guide offers encouragement and inspiration. It's a quick read that opens up more than your eyes. She starts each section off with scripture and ends it with discussion questions. You learn more about yourself as well as your partner. Like Jackson says, "The reality is that it takes a lifetime to build a marriage." Reviewed by: Jas
