CHAPTER 1
A terrible storm is raging in the dark night sky. Lightning strikes stab downward as the booming thunder soon follows. The rain pouring down unbearably as people rush to get somewhere safe from the madness of mother nature. For most, it was a miserable night and for others it was a work of art created by nature.
Inside the lab of Mardock Incorporated is another spectacle awaiting to be seen. A group of scientists, all wearing white lab coats and safety goggles, carefully get the experiment ready. Each one using their full concentration on their specific task to ensure that nothing can go wrong. Their nervousness very noticeable as they check all the equipment repeatedly.
They had worked for years to get this technology to work. Since the year 2072 ELAB has worked for Max Mardock to create a magnificient cure. All of their funding is due to Mardock. Otherwise the scientists would have been out of work several years ago. Tonight was their night to prove that the millions of dollars invested wasn’t a total waste of money. Not only could they keep their jobs after this project, but also become one of the leaders of modern medicine. A reputation they constantly struggle to achieve.
The door to the lab opens with a teenage boy being dragged in by two guards. The guards look like they worked for a SWAT team especially from the automatic weapons they are carrying. The boy struggling for breath was a sign that they needed to get the experiment over as soon as possible. The boy was no use to them dead.
Todd Grisham is suffering from muscular dystrophy. What started off as a harmless disease to his everyday life became the reason that he no longer wanted to live. He first noticed that he didn’t have complete control of his leg muscles when he was about five years old. Todd had started playing soccer and was the best on his team. Then out of nowhere he fell over on the field.
His mother, Linda, took him to many specialists to get a muscle biopsy. No matter how many times she took Todd the results were always the same. Once they were told that he had no production of dystrophin in his muscle tissue’s cytoskeleton it was obvious the doctor’s couldn’t help him.
Dr. Taylor approaches Todd and asks, "Are you sure that you want to
