The Story of Santa Claus - Jerry Pia
Claus.
Chapter One
Nicholas!
A very, very, very long time ago, Santa Claus was born. As the first-born son, he was named Nicholas Santarell Claus, after his Father, Nicholas and his Mother’s family name, Santarell. Both sides of the family were carpenters. Excellent craftsmen.
From when he was old enough to hold a hammer, Nicholas would work with his Father, Uncles and Grandfather. By the time he became a teenager, he was quite the carpenter and he would travel throughout the village, making repairs on their homes, as well as their furniture.
Nicholas dreamed that someday, he would really be able to use his skills and make beautiful ornate tables and chairs, but since the villagers were poor, he made practical furniture, that they could afford.
The Claus family grew and grew until Nicholas, who was now 19 years old, was a strapping young man, standing 6 feet 2 inches and weighing 240 pounds.
There were now twelve Claus children. Nicholas, the eldest, was followed by six sisters, Noel, Faith, Eve, Joy, Merry, and Holly, and five brothers, Jack, Angel, Tolka, Berry and, the youngest Jolly, who was 5 years old. Mrs. Claus gave birth boy then girl, every two years except after Merry and Berry, who were twins. When questioned about why she chose the s e names for her children, Mrs. Claus would say. Well, each of our children was conceived around Christmas.
And then she would giggle.
Through the years, Nicholas had become an expert carpenter, like his father and grandfather. His furniture, though, was very ornate, very decorative, unlike anything anyone in the small village had ever seen. His Grandfather would stare at Nicholas’ furniture and remark You have a gift young man. The likes that I have never seen.
One day, his grandfather came up to Nicholas and
