Noel

Once, a long time ago, Noel sang in a church choir.

Now she lined up with a bunch of other lesbians in the snow, training their vocal chords in preparation of caroling. It was a part of the Christmas With SapphiConnection series, put on by the dating website itself. When Noel applied to be a caroler that year, she was not expecting to be accepted right away. Not when the last year saw a turnout of over one-hundred applicants, since apparently her city was known for lesbians who could sing their throats out.

She also was not expecting to join ten other women in the middle of the snow outside the city’s biggest lesbian neighborhood. A few decades ago it was known as the yuppiest neighborhood in the city. Since then, it became the hub for lesbians with money. Outside of the stores, the cafes, and the services such as hair salons, there were two blocks of well-to-do houses – mansions, really – showcasing the most successful queer women to ever start their own business or survive to be a trust fund baby. The exact kind of place Noel could never imagine herself coming to, even though she had grown up in that city.

She was also supposed to be used to the biting cold that could hit the city during the winter. So why was she shivering beneath her blue felt coat lined in white faux fur?
