Anne Lockheart is a private investigator on a mission to find her sister Katie. A photo in the mail spurs a trip to New Orleans where Anne heads straight for Rising Moon, a jazz club where her sister was last seen. There she encounters an astounding man.
John Rodolfo, a blind saxophone player, is the club's chief attraction. He has secrets--more than most. Katie is not the first person to disappear from Rising Moon, and she won't be the last.
As Anne unravels the mystery of the missing Katie, John's involvement becomes frighteningly clear. Voodoo altars, strange wolves and magic combine to create more questions than answers. With Mardi Gras approaching, the city is wild, on edge and dangerous. But so is John Rodolfo.
Can Anne find her sister without losing her heart or maybe her life?

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is the first book I read in the Nightcreature series, so it was a bit difficult for me to pick up on some of the finer continuity points - but overall, I think it was an excellent introduction to the series (and I was able to go back and read the prior books without having my enjoyment of them spoiled by reading Crescent Moon first, which is always nice).
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Cryptozoologist Diana Malone has spent the last four years attempting to prove to the world that her deceased husband was correct and that werewolves exist. His name would no longer be laughed at, but so far she hasn’t been able to prove a thing. She accepts a job from a guy with a lot money, but physical impairments, to trap a werewolf he’s pretty sure exists in the swamps near New Orleans; many people have gone missing or were killed by animals, yet natural wolves don’t exist in Lousiana. A mansion on the edge of the swamp and owned for generations by the Ruelle family, is rented out to her to use as a base. And the owner, Adam Ruelle, who hates the memories in that place and doesn’t live there, is both mysterious and sexy as hell. They’re both immediately attracted to each other, but with all of the strange things happening, she’s having doubts about just what he is.We’re introduced to Cassandra, a white voodoo priestess who owns her own shop and immediately befriends Diana and attempts to help her find answers. This provides a level of humor between their actions and dialogue. Cassandra gets her own story in the next book, Midnight Moon.I’d read this book when it first came out and I have to say I enjoyed as much this time as I did the first time, even knowing how things pan out. It’s easy to slip into Diana’s feelings with both the attraction and uncertainty she feels for Adam, the need to find the truth and letting go of the past. And we’re given some pretty intense scenes. The mystery twist was definitely surprising the first time I read the story.
