About this ebook

This is a steamy historical romance short story (word count 6,319)

Marcus, the Earl of Cranmer, has a dark reputation for being a dangerous rake, but this does not stop Lydia taking up employment with him as his housekeeper when she finds herself desperately looking for somewhere to hide from her old troubles.
She is able to keep the earl at arm’s length and avoid any growing attraction between them, until a face from her past shows up bringing drama into her life once more. The earl becomes unwittingly entangled in Lydia’s affairs, as he sets himself up as her saviour and protector.
Causing Lydia to see the earl in a new light once more, and breaking down all her defences against him, she realises she is not impenetrable to his charms. It is now only a matter of time before they give into their passion for each other at long last!

As long as I can remember I have always loved everything and anything to do with the romance genre. Enjoying writing, reading and watching a wide range of love stories. I am a true romantic at heart! So after studying for a philosophy degree and then going on to work in a corporate job in advertising, I decided to reconnect with my passion again! I now write mainly romance short stories, with the aim to share all of my ideas with others who also have an interest in romantic fiction. I write in a range of romance subgenres including erotic romance, contemporary, sweet, paranormal/fantasy fiction and historical. I hope to continue writing as long as my ideas keep flowing out from my mind. In early 2014 I experienced my own personal love story, when I married my one true love. I now live together with my husband in London.

Chapter 1

Lydia hurried to the door as the loud incessant banging echoed through the entire house.

‘Gosh, Mrs Green, what are you doing up at this ungodly hour?’ the earl scolded her upon noticing her appearance once the door was opened, and he gained entrance into his home at last.

‘The other servants are not here, so I was the only one able to open the door for you. I thought it best to come down rather than let you wait out in that terrible weather’, Lydia tried to explain herself.

‘Well, quite right that you did. I am already soaked through,’ he grumbled, ‘but why are the rest of the servants away? Have they suddenly become lazy under your usually watchful eye and disciplined management?’ The earl spoke casually, removing his wet coat.

‘No, my lord, not lazy; they are not here because they have the evening off. You instructed everyone to enjoy themselves in recognition of your own celebrations’, Lydia said flatly, trying to strip any emotion from her voice as she reminded him of his instructions to the household.

‘Oh, yes, so I did’, the earl scratched his head as if to stimulate himself to gather up all of his memories from the afternoon. ‘I remember I was in an immensely good mood this morning. I won big on the horses like I have never done before and I wanted everyone to share in my good fortune. But perhaps I celebrated too recklessly; I should have practiced some restraint for I have almost lost all the money I made on the bet from my indulgences of this evening . . . oh well, life is for living, you have to have a bit of fun sometimes!’ He spoke more to himself in
