So this is how it ends—Rupert wins. Deep down I knew that would be the outcome of all of this. Rupert will always win because of the man he is. And that’s why I’ll always lose to him.

Me? I’m a person of passion when it comes to science. I pour my blood, sweat and all of my feelings into my projects. While Rupert, he sees it all as just a business. True, I've seen glimmers of his softer side these last few weeks—a part of him I fell in love with. Now those feelings are gone because of his need to win—no matter the cost.

I'm not blameless in all of this. Hell, I'm sure me kissing Matthew might have driven him to do what he’s about to do. But knowing he would ruin my career and my marriage to Jane, you'd think that would make him think twice. Instead, it only made him more ruthless. Now he's holding me hostage with some unknown piece of evidence he’ll be showing the government on Monday.
