About this ebook
The tradition of planting on Tu B’Shevat, the Jewish New Year for trees, is handed down from generation to generation in this warm tale. Using a shovel “shiny and new,” a little boy and his grandpa plant a seed “with a green curlicue.” Like the tiny seed, this rhyming tale grows and blossoms into a celebration of nature and of family. The story culminates years later when the little boy, now a grandfather, plants a seed with a grandchild of his own. Included are ten great ways to enhance your Tu B’Shevat celebration.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Cumulative story about a young boy who plants a seed with his grandfather and how the seed becomes a tree. Each line rhymes with "oo" (except for the final one, which ends with Tu B'Shevat); some of the verses manage this by ending with a parenthetical comment (see previous clause). Colorful woodcuts with interesting details. SPOILER: The full circle of life is shown by the last 4-line verse, with a different rhyme, that has the now old shovel being used by the little boy, who has takes on his grandfather's role with his own grandchild. I haven't tried it yet, but it seems like it should be good for story time. It should be possible to come up with hand and body movements for each verse and have an audience of children repeat the last words or phrases of some of the lines.
