I was raised in a small town in Michigan and was born with a congenital problem in both knees. I went through many surgeries, trying to correct the problem but there was never really a cure. Little did I know, that God had "branded" me at birth, for such a moment as this. Many in this world grow up and go to school or college, to get their education but that's not what God had in store for me. My education for writing, came from twenty-one painful knee surgeries, heartache from sexual abuse as a child, and the loss of many things in my life, including the loss of children. As each painful moment came and as each loving desire left; God was taking all the brokenness in my life, and He was piecing it together, so I could have the heart He desired...a heart that could understand and care, for others who live in despair. What would we do without God’s strength? How could we remain standing, during the difficult moments and do we truly see that it’s only because of His strength; that we remain standing? As we begin; I would like to share a Bible verse with you, from Joshua 1:9 and we read…Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

What does it really mean to be strengthened by God? It’s so easy to say…the Lord is my strength but are we experiencing the moments of strength that only God can offer us? As I was reading this passage this morning, one of the first thoughts that came to my mind was this…just think, when we accepted Christ to live within our hearts, we not only invited Him to live within us but we also became as one with Him. In other words, when He walked into our lives, His peace became our peace…His love became our love and His strength became our strength. Let’s ask ourselves a question today…are we taking advantage, of these great benefits that God is offering us or are we falling prey to the circumstance, while we only reap the negative response, from each trying moment we experience?

Our minds have a way of convincing us, that we cannot make it during a difficult moment of adversity but it’s only because we are too tightly focused on the problem; rather than focusing on the powerful God that lives within us. When we choose to acknowledge God, rather than the problems we face, then we will come to see that with every step we take; God is there…walking throughout the day with us, while He holds us up with His sustaining strength. Once we are able to experience His everlasting strength…a strength that is limitless; then we will find that He can be the same sustaining God, through any other circumstance we face.

Reacting to a Moment of Trial

How do we experience God’s blessings, through moments of trial? As we begin; I would like to read a Bible verse from James 1:2 and we read…Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

How are we reacting to our moments of trial? Are we afraid to accept what is happening to us; with fear that we may see ourselves as a failure? We must remember that when we listen to this kind of voice; we are only being deceived by Satan. He is the last one; that would ever want to see us come out, of the moments he placed us in. So many times, we are afraid to accept these hardships that we face in life and rather than dealing with them; we attempt to be strong on our own but over time, we soon discover that this only leaves us with a life that is drained, while continually feeling defeated.

When we can see our circumstances, as opportunities to receive God’s richest blessings, rather than viewing them, as moments, when we feel rejected and worthless; then we will begin to see a new strength and growth spring up within us. The verse above says; to count it all joy, when we face various kinds of trial because these moments produce a greater strength, which will make it much more difficult, for Satan to attack us the next time.

Let’s face it…we all go through difficult times of hardship but when we are willing to accept our moments of circumstance and view them as an opportunity, for God to perform a great and wondrous work within us; then we will be able to leave the feelings of defeat behind; in order that we may gain God and His richest blessings; even through our darkest moments of affliction.

Standing on the Promises that Will Keep Us Standing

As we enter the hump of the week; we can feel drained and sometimes discouraged but one thing we must remember; no matter what we are facing or whether it be the beginning…middle or end of the week; God is there for us all the time and He never grows weary of us but rather, He is there…waiting
